Question about working in canada?

Hello, I'm planning on moving to Toronto in the summer to visit. I plan on renting an apartment for 3 months and simply enjoying the Canadian lifestyle. I understand that it will cost a lot of money in order for me to do this, so I really wanted to get a job there. I'm 18 years old and am a U.S. citizen. How would I go about getting a job in Canada? It's really essential for me to make money while I'm there so any guidence is very much appreciated. Can I simply walk into a small business, like a Starbucks or McDonald's and ask for a job, or is that not permitted? Please, any advice will help.
Thank you,
Jesse

just like a canadian going to the USA to work you need to get a work visa for Canada as well

if your looking for a job at starbucks or macdonalds I would suggest finding yourself room mates as it won't be the rent for one

no you cant just walk in and work
you will have to apply for a work permit or if The Us and Canada share a working holiday program you can apply for that
or in some cases you can apply for a permit as you enter canada

Working at Starbucks or McDonalds won't enable you to make the rent on a Toronto apartment.

First of all, you need to get a work visa. You cannot just cross the border and carry on. Even to live here and rent an apartment, you're going to need a Visitors Visa. Go to your local Canadian consulate or their website for more information.

Amen to poster #1. My aunt lives in Toronto sharing an apartment and pays in excess of $1,500 per month in rent....and we're not even talking a nice apartment.

You can visit for 3 months without a Visa, but if you plan to work you will need one. As the other answerer said, working at McDumpy's or Starbucks won't pay your rent in Toronto or the outlying cities around Toronto.

you need a temporary work visa. you need to be employed with a U.S. based company thats the best way to get it. in other words it means you need to work for a U.S. company in canada. but its better if you start working for a American company here in the U.S. and then your employer can get you that visa.

The Ontario Minimum wage is $8.00 per hour (check link below) my daughter is an assistant manager at a fast food place and she doesn't hire right off the street and I think that you will find that most places in Canada don't hire that way (I could be wrong).

Check into the working holiday makers there is a link below (2nd one) to the Canadian site you will have to check with your government to see if you can apply to the programme. It was a little bit of a struggle to get to the Canadian government site.

Hope this helps you

If looking for a job look at places THAT ARE HIRING! Ask for an application form, fill it out, and give back the application form and your resume. They may call you for an interview. Not many small businesses hire you when you walk in and ask for a job. The best place to get hired on the spot are at job fairs. There are alot of places hiring for summer jobs too.
