Question for people who live in big cities such as Toronto, New York, Seattle, etc.. =)?

I live in Vancouver, B.C. and I love it here, in large part because it's such a beautiful city with so much to offer!

That said ... I don't intend to stay here. I have discovered that I prefer cities of 75.000 to 125,000 , because the traffic isn't so bad, you have most the amenities, but you can be out of the city within minutes, where as in a large city, you can drive for an hour and still be in th urban area.

For those who like clubbing, busy shopping, busy streets, then large cities are great. I recommend at least trying it out for a year or two. You may decide you don't like it, but then you have the experience to draw on! My daughter spent two years in NYC, and while she moved back to a tiny town in Oregon, she loved her time in the City.

Of course it is fun. There are so many things to do and so many places to eat. Plus, there are a ton of companies so it is good for your career.

It depends on you. It can be really difficult and alienating if you move there by yourself and without knowing a single person. It can also suck in the summer, especially in Toronto, because the smog gets really bad. But, you can always go to the nearest cottage country or something if you don't like it during the summer.

However, it also has so much to do. You can go to movies, festivals, shopping malls, clubs, the works. So if you're a social person it can rock your world! It's also great if you don't own a car. You can just take the subway everywhere, or bus if you're not downtown. That reminds me, if you can afford it, living downtown is so completely worth it. Everything's right at your fingertips and you don't have to worry about hours of commuting to your workplace or school.

So yeah, if you have a few people already in the city and you're social, I'm sure you'll love it!

Hell yeah. you can rob a bank or whatever you want and you'll never see your victims again. it's great, if nothing else for that reason.

There is good and bad, like anywhere.

For me, I moved from a smaller town to Toronto with a friend and after she finished school, she moved away, I stayed.

You have to be aware that you need to push yourself to make friends. People from work, get out and play sports or join something. Because the city is so large, people tend to be less friendly (you can't say hi to everyone you see!!) have more trouble meeting one another. Not impossible, but it does take time, and effort.

It can be more expensive, but it doesn't have to be. I live in a very lovely apt, and quite reasonable rent. I don't go clubbing, and party every weekend. I am a professional, so I tend to play sports, and meet friends for dinner/drinks, or entertain at home. I have a few circles of friends, and many of them now have kids and homes. So, entertaining is more relaxed.

I live in Toronto, and there are always things to do. The choices are endless. I sometimes go back to the country and it is nice to get away from the city, too. When you're younger and out of school, the city can seem very exciting, with so much to discover, but you get used to it, although there are always new things opening up or new attractions coming around. After a while, the hustle and bustle can be a bit much (traffic, living on the subway, crowds, rush hour, etc.) so that's why it is good to get out and get back to peace & quiet.

There are plusses and minuses. Sure there's lots to do, lots of places to eat, great shopping etc, but then you have to look at the higher cost of housing, the increased level of pollution, its crowded, higher crime rates, etc

Yeah, I think it's fun, and I don't even live in the largest of cities. Plus I don't even have that many friends! lol But yeah, it's fun because there is more to do, you're more likely to find things that become your favorite hangouts, and when you get tired of that one you can find another one easy. There are pros and cons to living in the city, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.

If you've always dreamed of living in a big city then you should try it. I think you'll like it. And if you don't then you can always move. Big cities are exciting, lots of places, people and opportunities, but it can get tiring as it's always busy and there isn't much peace. Smaller cities offer opportunities for entrepreneurs as there isn't much competition from bigger companies, but it can get boring. I think it depends on what you like. I found toronto to be an ugly building city after a while, and calgary to be close to beautiful mountains and cleaner, but now I chose vancouver as a combination of both, big city and beauty in one.

I recently moved to a small town for university and I miss Toronto like crazy! It is definitely fun! There is ALWAYS something to do, it just depends on what kind of person you are. On any given day and night, you can visit famous landmarks such as the CN Tower, ROM, Casa Loma, go see shows and performances, go to one of the many clubs bars and pubs or restuarants of every kind, walk downtown, go shopping at one of the many malls, or go to the park if you're feeling mellow, or vintage shopping, or to Chinatown or Little Italy or to one of Toronto's many festivals, Yorkville to go celeb-spotting during the Film Festival just to name a few. The possilities and people you'll meet are endless.

I've lived in small towns and I've lived right in Toronto. I know live in suburbia outside of Toronto. I think my preference is suburbia. Toronto was a lot of fun to live in but it was expensive.
