The cheap areas are the most dangerous i.e. jane and finch, scarbourough...If you live near downtown you should not need a car. The suburbs are much nicer but a bit expensive...the transit system is much better in the suburbs than in the city. A good area to live in is near the lakeshore around high park and cabbagetown stay away from the metro housing area as they are crime ridden

I went to flim school at York University in Toronto. Film school is damned expensive, sell your car, take the bus to Toronto and while staying in Toronto take public transit - it sucks if you are living or studying in the burbs (like York) but live on campus and it's not so bad. You'll need all your money for your films, particularly your grad film.

Bicycle film fest just started. Maybe drive out here and check it out. Toronto is shcizophrenic, so it's not the best place to go to school. It can be difficult to learn.

LOADS of jobs down here, and pretty good $$$ as well. Housing is a bit of a hassle though, you gotta have a job first. I would say look in Scarborough if you're gonna be using the subway to travel back and forth, otherwise if you just wanna walk to college everyday then you may have to live downtown, which is kinda expensive if you don't have a roommate.

You can have your car shipped to Toronto; it will cost you a few hundred dollars. But you could also sell your car and get along very easy in Toronto without one.

Good luck

if you ever do decide to live in toronto, you MUST live in st. jamestown, toronto. its downtown and a walk away from a subway station. you could probably find a room-mate to share an apartment with. when i lived there 4 years ago, my mom was paying 975$ for 2 rooms. just be careful though, its not a safe neighbourhood.

id sell your car if i were you. if you live downtown, youre not gonna use a car to get to places down here unless you wanna go further out or something. i take the public transpo to school and work and stuff. if you really wanna go to to though id tell you to live in campus or something, theres no way you can live further down.

it depends on where you go. but its a huge city, so obviously its not gonna be dirt cheap. there are a lot of jobs here.

to film school seems cool enough...

bugged to death
Lots of people spend their whole lives living in Toronto and never owning a car. It is very easy to get around most of the city by transit. However, are you going to school downtown (Ryerson, Canadian Film Inst. OCAD) or are you out in the 'burbs, (York, Sheridan). It makes a big difference. If you are in the burb's you may want to keep the car. If you are downtown, get rid of it. Welcome to TO!
