actually those other posts are incorrect.
The Canada Place/Pan Pacific Cruise Ship Terminal is NOT the only berth for Cruise Ships - in fact Ballentine Pier, on the EastSide is a good $10 cab ride from Canada Place - so you should confirm which terminal you are to be at before assuming it is Canada Place..
there are dozens of hotels in the City - for every type of budget - cabs are readily available and provided you are at a downtown hotel - no more that a $15 trip.
five star hotels: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Four Seasons
nice upscale: Pan Pacific, Hyatt Regency, Le Soleil, Wedgewood, Metropolitan, Westin Bayshore
nice bargain hotels: Hampton Inn & Suites, Georgian Court, St. Regis
bargain hotels: Days Inn, Ramada on Pender, Howard Johnson On Granville
all are downtown - of you can afford it I would reccomend the Bayshore (for its proximity to the water and Stanley Park) or the historic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (the Grand Dame of the city).
You're better off taking a cab into the city from the airport rather than bunking out there, and then trying to beat traffic to catch your ship (traffic can be tedious in from the airport). There'll be plenty of cabs at the airport. There's aso a shuttle bus called the "Airporter" taht services all the major donwtown hotels and is mebbe $15 as opposed to the $30 + you will pay by cab. |

I would stay at one of many fine hotels on or near Robson Street. You would be less than a mile from the cruise ship port. Also, Robson is one of the "tourist" areas of Vancouver featuring restaurants and shops. Its a great to place to visit! |

The cruise ship terminal is at Canada Place which is downtown. There is also a hotel at Canada Place. The hotel is a bit pricey though. You could stay by the airport and take a shuttle to Canada Place. Many hotels by the airport offer shuttle service to/from the airport. There are many shuttles that go airport to downtown. If you're really courageous you could take transit downtown. It would be two buses to get to Canada Place. Look for Canada Place online and you'll get all the info you need. |

You don't want to stay near the airport... blech! There's nothing to see or do there. Head downtown.. you'll be close to whatever pier your cruise line is using. Check out this site.. it's the official BC tourism site! www.hellobc.com :) |

I am not sure of your schedule, but I would stay near the Cruise Ship. That way if you are behind schedule you are closer to your destination. Or, if you have lots of time, you have the option of leaving your bags at the hotel, and doing stuff for the day and coming back to the hotel before heading to the Cruise ship. The Cruise Ship dock is downtown anyway, so lots of hotel options and lots of things to do. The Pan Pacific Hotel, 999 Canada Place, is right at the dock. I checked the schedule and Princess Cruises use the Canada Place dock. Double check at the Port of Vancouver site, and for the their link to a list of nearby hotels in the FAQ's.
I would only recommend staying near the airport if you expect to be arriving very, very tired and plan on sleeping only. Then there is a Fairmont Hotel right at the airport. (Don't confuse that with the 2 Fairmonts Downtown) |

I'd stay downtown near the port, any hotel downtown is fine, and hotels like the Pan Pacific (located on top of the cruise ship terminal at Canada Place) Fairmont etc are very convenient to the waterfront, though any downtown hotel will be convenient. Only stay at the airport if a) Your flight comes in very late, or b) you want to save a buck.
Don't forget your passport. |
