Relocating to Calgary. what is a nice trendy area to live?

I'm thinking about relocating to Calgary from the Seattle Area and I have few questions, I'm a single professional in my late 20s, so...

A)What is a good "trendy" area to live? Downtown? I love city life, walking distance restaurants, bars and general activities (I currently live downtown Seattle). I do have a car but I hate to depend on it to go out the weekends.

B) What's the average price for a 1B apartment in that area?

C) Any idea about the Hispanic community? (I'm from Latin America...)

downtown by 17th avenue sw is a great area to live. it's not actually in downtown but it's the trendiest part of the city. tons of shops and restaurants and cafes and things. kensington is also really great but a bit smaller than the 17th avenue area. it's a pretty desirable area to live in so housing is a bit more expensive there than other areas. i would average a 1 bedroom apt probably around $1000 - $1400. I lived fairly close to there last year and managed to get a place for $800 but it was a dump. if you're looking online check out areas called bankview, mount royal, lower mount royal and sunalta. sunalta is a bit farther away but still walking distance. make sure you don't look at 17th avenue se. sorry, not sure about the hispanic community but it is a fairly diverse area. lots of young people too so tons of fun. good luck!!

Silver Springs is a pretty good place to live. It's mostly Seniors, but we are pretty close to down town. Like, you'll still have to drive but not too far. There's a really good mini mall that I like, depend on. some of the houses are really expensive, but there's some pretty good ones too. And if you have kids there's a really good Jr.High school, and the highschool your kids will probably go to is the best music and drama program in Calgary!

From what you said i'd look at Silver Springs and the university area.

Downtown is trendy, but expensive.

Avoid the North-East. There are some nice neighborhoods, but generally, the NE is the slummy part of the city.

Ogden and Temple are two of the worst areas. Avoid them like the plague.

The SE is nice, but very "suburb-y". Eau Claire is right downtown, trendy, and has some amazing places to live. A condo in Eau Claire is about as trendy as you get :) Kensington is also a very trendy neighborhood, has a lot of neat shops and a real "neighborhood" feel to it, and is right across the river from downtown. Personally, if I were looking for a neat area to live in Calgary, I'd go for Kensington.

You may also want to look into Kensington (NW of downtown), Mission, Inglewood (SE of downtown).

I was thinking of Kensington as well. It's just north of downtown. Definately one of the 'trendy' communities.
