In order to move from the U.S. to Canada, unless you already have immigration status or are a citizen of Canada, you will have to apply through immigration for temporary or permanent residency.

You can find the information needed and the application forms at:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/

The process takes 1-2 years and costs about $1,200 (for one person). If it takes less time and/or less money, just count yourself fortunate!

Canada in general is a very safe country to live in. The large cities have more crime, as do most large cities, but even so, they are relatively safe in most areas. Hand guns are illegal in Canada, which does cut down on the amount of gun related crime, compared to the U.S.

The maritime provinces and the prairie provinces have the least expensive cost of living, but also lower wages. Cost of living in Canada in general is more than that in the U.S., by about 30%. However, National Health Care cuts that percentage some once you are eiligible for it, though expect a lower quality of care here.

I live in Vancouver, B.C. and find it to be a truly amazing city, and although it has its bad areas, overall it's a very safe city to live in.

I'm Originally From Canada - I Lived There For Most Of My Life.... I Mainly Lived In The *Toronto* Area In Ontario... And, The *Edmonton* Area In Alberta... Both Of Thoses Cities Are Pretty Safe And Affordable!!

Move anywhere in Alberta ( Edmonton or Calgary). There are a lot of jobs here and its fun place. The weather is also good.

I would suggest looking into cities in Southern, Ontario. Cities such as Brantford, London and Cambridge are affordable and safe cities. While they're not large like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver they offer plenty of jobs
and very nice living arrangements. A lot of American's live there. If you're interested in larger cities, I would suggest Toronto. You have everything you need there.

All cities here are pretty safe. The three largest cities are Toronto, Montreal & Vancouver. Unless you like the Metropolitan (urban) lifestyle then there are many other cities to move to that are super safe.

I wouldn't move to Calgary right now because there is a large lack of housing and even rental places because of the hugh influx of people that have moved there recently because of the oil sands nd the large productiong of gas. Though calagary is a fantastic city.

Montreal, well full of fashion ad you need to speak French sometimes to get around as there are still some poeple in Montreal that refuse to speak English.

Vancounver is super expensive, even the suburbs but a very laid back kind of city with lots of recreation

Toronto is very multi-cultural of all the Canadian cities and is becoming very expensive to live in but there are many places you can find to buy and rent cause the city is so big. But iskind of a grey city.

Winnipeg is becoming a very large City with lots of good jobs and very cost effective housing and rentals. and with places to cottage only 1 hour north it is becoming increasinly popular with other people moving out of the larger cities here in Canada.

Ontario or Manitoba is your best bet.

Cheers. Hope that helps and good luck in finding your answer!

Anywhere in Canada is great to live in. If you are looking at a safe place for your family, stick to the suburbs of major centers. I guess like anywhere, crime is higher in the big city. The ideal places are in the country, and we have lots up here. The only thing is if you work, the commute could be lengthy.

I am in the suburbs of Toronto, about half an hour's drive to downtown, and it is peaceful out here and safe. Ten minutes north and you could smell the cows.

Toronto of course, is the industrial, economical and social heart of Canada. It is not a very safe city however. A lot of crimes happen in Toronto.

Vancouver is a veryy beautiful city. It is very peaceful, safe and definitely affordable.

Unless you want to learn french, do not move to Quebec.

Generally, i would sugggest staying as far south as possible because of the weather and because the further north you go, the higher the cost of living is (goods and services are expensive up north)
