Road beers in Canada?

I have heard that in the land of monopoly money (AKA Canada, specifically Ontario and Quebec), it is legal for passengers of an automobile to consume alcohol while moving. Is this true? Is the driver allowed to drink while driving?

We do NOT have monopoly! And, no it is not legal for anyone to consume liquor in a vehicle. In fact is illegal to have any open liquor in a vehicle, except for the trunk.

Randy B
It is not only illegal to drink in a moving vehicle (driver or passenger) it is also illegal to have open liquor (beer, wine or spirits) IN a vehicle, being driven or parked. If you want to transport booze it must either be sealed or in the trunk.

And these rules are for all across Canada, not just ON or PQ.

freeside49
no absolutely not in Ontario or anywhere in Canada as it is a Criminal Code offense right up there with driving over .08 blood and failing to blow a breathalyzer.
Its illegal to have unpacked booze in the passenger compartment of the car at all. ie a single unopened beer.

Tara
wow... not at all.... we aren't even allowed having liquor within reach in our cars. If caught drinking you go straight to jail.

oh yeah, I love our money!

Chris I
No it's not true, no open bottles allowed in the car, period.

Now tell me about the drive thru Daiquiri stands in Louisiana. Are they for real??

Poor, poor, misinformed Americans....here we go again...first of all if Americans checked around the world outside of their country, they would realize they are one of the few countries without colour in their paper money..second..we are very serious here about not drinking and driving..we like to save innocent people from being killed by drunk drivers, not encourage this behaviour..that is why it is a criminal offense...passengers are not allowed to drink in a vehicle...no open alcohol in a vehicle, and while transporting alcohol it must be in the trunk of your car or back of your truck..out of reach...we like to drink, but we take taxis or have designated drivers..we party safe.
