Why do you say all Canadians hate Americans? I have never heard that, nor do I think that and I am Canadian. You will only have to worry if you are ignorant like the guy saying Canadians are jealous. Canadians don't hate Americans but they sure as hell resent Americans who think they are superior when they know absolutely nothing about their closest neighbours. It's quite incredible that Canadians know a lot about Americans and their history but 9 out of 10 Americans don't even know if Canada has a President, Prime Minister or Queen. It would be nice if more Americans reciprocated the effort. |

Canadians do not hate Americans. However, we do strongly dislike attitudes like the one displayed in the post written by "biffnasty". That is the kind of American we can do without and really hope they stay at home. Not only does his attitude suck but his information is incorrect and misleading. Obviously he has never been to Canada. |

Toronto is far safer than any American city even for Americans. You will be treated well by the people who live there. We do not dislike the US people, we just do not like your government.
I live in Ontario, less than two miles from Michigan and see Americans everyday. I grew up watching US TV listening to US radio and cheering for US sports teams(except hockey-GO LEAFS GO) And half of Canada was cheering for Anaheim to win the Stanley Cup.
Many of us wear shirts or jerseys representing American teams or cities. We do not hate Americans, We just like Canada and our way of life more than we like "The American Way"
You will not have any problems, but like American cities it is a good idea to stay out of some neighbourhoods at night.
Toronto is a clean, safe, modern city, take some time to look around.
Go to the CN Tower, Sky Dome, Science Centre, there is so much to do there, plus a lot of free concerts etc in parks etc.
Do not bring drugs or weapons across the border or you will not get into the country
Enjoy your stay |

You will find Canadians to be warm, welcoming people. You will be very safe in Toronto. Canadians only hate the obnoxious, arrogant Americans. |

It is just irritating that Americans know so little (ignorant) of their neighbors to the North (i.e. the silly questions as mentioned in other posts), esp when we have such good relations.
Toronto is much safer than many American cities combined.
You will enjoy yourself. Trust me. |

I am not sure where this perception is coming from but it's not true. Canadians do not like being called Americans and believe they have their unique culture but that does not translate to hatred at all. I think you will find a lot of tolerance as long as you respect the local culture and not assume we are all Americans. Yo should have a great time as Toronto is one of the best places to be in the summer. Enjoy your trip. |

The only thing we hate is Americans perceptions of Canadians (eg., we all live in igloos, we all say "eh", etc.) Other than that, we embrace and welcome people from countries all over the world. We don't hate Americans - there are lots of them in Canada driving around every day. You'll be fine. |

All Canadians don't hate Americans it just appears that what on this site because of stereo typing. When you drive to Toronto you'll be as safe as any other person in the city. However I feel it's important to reminder you that in most places in the world tourist tend to be a targets of robbery. |

Some people are anti-bush, some are anti-american. Some people love bush, some love americans. I'm a recovering anti-american. It was not until I went on a trip down to nevada
that I realized "the problem."
I live in a city near the border, and there are millions of tourists here every year-many of those being American. It drove me crazzzzy the stupid questions that I would be asked. And I wondered for years why I was being asked these questions.
Anywho, back to my trip to Nevada. I was looking at the tv channel listings for the hotel I was staying in, and saw the channel "CTV" and thought that it was a Canadian channel-only to turn in to that channel to discover that CTV was Consumer Television...lol
It was then that it occurred to me that a large percentage of America lacks media coverage from the rest of the world. I have A LOT of American tv channels, and when I watch the 'local' Washington news programs, I notice that the majority of the info on it is all about America.
So my frustration with Americans is that they (to generalize a whole population of pple) are ignorant to what is going on outside their back door....and literally backdoor to those who live along the border.
My example is that most Americans can't name the Canadian President.
While most of the world could tell you the name of the current usa president, and at least the one or two before him.
I LOVE travelling down to the states...Sadly I have seen more states than I have provinces. I also have some great friends who live in the usa. I just don't get why 'they' really have such a lack of interest in what's going on just north of them (or south of them if they are in Alaska...lol)?????????????????
PS-Canada doesn't have a president, we have a Prime Minister, and his name is Stephen Harper!!
Canadians are very polite (again to generalize a whole population of people). We like your money so please come and visit as often as you can!! As long as you think 'safe' you should be fine...ie-don't flash your money around. Don't go down dark alleys ect ect. And if you have a camera, make sure that you keep it close to your body (not hanging off your arm or something like that).
Have fun! |
