Should Americans be allowed to visit Canada, since their healthcare system is effectively nonexistant?

I have heard news reports of people waiting hours in Canadian hospital rooms, or years on waiting lists for operations. Considering this and also the generally low standard of living in Canada, should Americans be allowed to visit there, or is it too unsafe?

I'm not grasping the "low standard of living" remark, so I'll just disregard it as ignorance.

I am familiar wth your comments regarding waiting times and such; however, I again believe the details of the facts to be far less grim than I have interrpreted your question to read.

Canada has a public health care system paid for by its taxpayers; therefore, I agrue that there are bound to be some political red tape.

With that said, I believe the wait times and quality of care to be satisfactory especially in emergency situations. Could it be better? Absolutely. Is it incompetent? Absolutely not.

Gimme a break. I grew up near Detroit and frequently visited Canada for dinner or for a long weekend. I'd be more worried about going south than going north.

By the way, LOW STANDARD OF LIVING????? By whose standards -- the Rockefellers?

i have never had to wait for medical treatment in Canada, not even when i needed surery and I'm not even Canadian!
Canada has one of the highest standards of living in the world so don't know where your reading this crap......safety here can not be compared to the danger of living in the US so i find your comment funny

Watch the movie Sicko by Micheal Moore in it he holds the Canadian system of healthcare to be far superior than the States as is most of Europe..

I think you need to do more research.
My father was diagnosed with Cancer and had treatments immediatly... the only thing you might have to wait weeks for are non life threatening treatments.

as for standard of living, I would reconsider that sentence. I have seen our "slums" look better than some of your middle class neighborhoods.

I can't figure out if you are trolling or if you are serious.

However, you are more then welcome to stay home. If you believe everything your media tells you then you deserve to not see one of the most beautiful counties in the world.

okay here is logic _> due to the fact their is more people getting free health care of course you would have a bit longer wait !! compared to a country where people have to pay their is not that much wait !

Secondly I have had two surger'es in a year and I did not have to wait dye to the fact it was an emergency .Surgeries are based on priority of course...as to see the doctor I don't know anyone who has a long wait to see their family doctor .
Unsafe!? I think canadians are unsafe with all the gun happy , racist ,social issues that america has to visit there
seems like the exagerations come from envious americans !

American media/public education must be under the control of dimwitted chimps. Our healthcare system sucked in the 90's, it's 2007...and now it's improved immensely....just read the other replies. Regardless, a visiting american would not recieve health care without traveller's insurance anyways, only Canadians recieve our healthcare.
Generally low standard of living? America has had a lower standard of living than Canada for years (as determined by the UN)...which makes the states... Canada's Mexico.
But to answer your question, no americans should not be allowed to visit Canada....until they are humbled by our vast greatness.
Haha :p

One cannot answer this question because the meaning of 'American' isn't clear:

- A person or attribute of South or North America
- A person or attribute of the indigenous peoples of South or North America
- A person or attribute of the United States of America: the political correct term
is 'US-American'

?
No, Americans should stay home. Their money isn't worth much in Canada anyway.
Don't beleive everything you read or hear. That's very nieve.
Its the American healthcare system that is nonexistant.
