If you want a few bucks pocket money OK, otherwise, No. You pay a fee for the exchange - they do not sit there and change money for no profit you know. Use your credit / debit card and your card company will give you the correct exchange rate with no fees.
And - do not trust the retailers to give you a fair exchange either. They shave a few points off the going rate.

If you do wait till you are in Canada. I went there last year for vacation. I exchange our money in the US before I went. Then when I got there they gave a better rate!!

use a canadian bank they don't charge you the amount the us banks do as they have stricter regulations on what they can charge
MARDUK
Yes. Any bank in the world will exchange money for the local cash.

As someone who divides their time between Canada and the U.S., I would strongly advise you to use your ATM card at Canadian ABM's, or debit or credit card to make purchases with retailers and for services. You will get the very best rates that way. Only carry cash for the smaller expenditures.

Change it locally in Canada at a bank or a currency exchange. Check both to see which is giving the better rate.
usmc_piper
There is really no reason to. If you have a ATM card then they can do the change over for you. It may be good to have some cash on hand but most places will carry a ATM there.

you can go to any of our banks and have it changed.if you use your money locally not everyone will do the exchange properly.I ve used usa money to buy coffee and just got he change back in our canadian equivalant.$1.00 for $1.00..

I would recommend it, so that you know what you have in canadian, and when you use it, you use there money so there is no mistakes on how much you should recieve back.
teddybears
no because all of the Canadian retailers can exchange it for you right there....secondly, why pay the bank rate to change it over, when you can come to Canada and have it done free of charge?
