Canada is looking for educated slaves, not professionals.
You may not find good paying jobs because Canada is looking for highly educated slaves. I mean we welcomes Ph.D engineers to work as cleaning stuff or doctors to work as taxi drivers. This is because we ARE racist. Since most educated immigrants are NOT white, we don't give a carp. Thanks to our policies of modern day to hide the fact that we are racist, we just apply the same law we apply to brown educated immigrants to the whites we well.

Years and years ago when European immigrants are the most common, Canadian companies gave good paying jobs to everyone. When in flux of minority refugees turns to an influx of minority educated professionals, suddenly the laws of rules has been changed. This is systematic discrimination.

Most of you who say that they don't face discrimination, it is because you are a visible CHRISTIAN minority. You can't even dream of living with a anti-creationist religious views with a brown skin... CAN YOU????

Hum... after all, multiculturalism is NOT multi-religious either! But if you are a white atheist, then you will be OK.

Canada is a fake land of hope. Canada is a fake multicultural country. Make sure that you know the dark side of Canada and then make an informed decision.

Last Note on the fate of dark skinned children: If you come here with kids and your skin colour is dark, don't let white teachers who try to create more jobs for members of teachers' association, place you children in ESL classes. ESL is set up for segregation. I am a victim of this.... I am currently in bio medical engineering school at University of Calgary.

****DON'T LIE WHITE CANADIANS! Do you need facts? Sure... here you go:

By Laurie Devine (McGill University | Montreal, Quebec | Nov 20 2008)
Black Montrealers still earn substantially less than whites, The Gazette reported earlier this week. “The data demonstrate that blacks have dramatically lower incomes than non-blacks… at every age and even among university graduates,” the study by McGill’s Consortium for Ethnicity and Strategic Social Planning states. “No matter how you cut it, blacks earn less than non-blacks, irrespective of age, gender, occupation and level of bilingualism,” consortium director Jim Torczyner, a McGill social work professor, told Jeff Heinrich of The Gazette after presenting the findings. The study’s preliminary findings were released this week at a Quebec Human Rights Commission conference on discrimination in the workplace and were based on the 2006 federal census.

You would be wise to start by contacting Canada Immigration, to find out whether you would be considered an acceptible candidate for immigration. One is required to apply for Landed Immigration from outside Canada. Many people apply, but few are actually accepted.

Although not as bad as many places, the Canadian economy is not in good shape. The housing market, particularly, is down, so skills in the building trades are less valued. The Alberta Oilpatch is still strong, so plumbers, pipefitters, heavy duty machine operators, welders, and 'roughnecks' continue to be in demand there.

Note to MSS:

Unlike many countries, Canada freely allows its citizens, immigrants and visitors to leave the country. You are under no obligation to stay.

to be honest, u don't have much of a chance of getting into Canada, we have lots of bricklayers and office workers here, Canada wants engineers, doctors etc, or u have a ton of money for business investment that could create jobs, it's just like trying to go the US from Canada, u need to have a degree or u need to already have a job to go to, but the employer have to prove that a Canadian can't fill that position...it's not an easy task

http://www.cic.gc.ca is the official immigration website. You will find there are a couple of ways to immigrate. As a "skilled worker" you have to qualify on a points system. There is a self test on the skilled worker section to take to see if you can apply. If you have immediate family here already they can sponser you under "family reunification",.
If wanting to move here temporarily you need to find a job first from outside the country and then apply for a temprorary work visa.

A year or two ago, it would have been really easy for you to get in on a temporary permit in AB. Now the building boom has slowed down a bit. Maybe you still can but not as easy. Look for jobs online, call the employers or fax your CV. Tell them they need to apply for a labour market opinion so you can get a work permit. If you can get a job, your partner can get an open spouse work permit. You can work on residency later.

Here are some job websites:

Wish you provided info on where youre moving from. I moved here from the RP but now i would rather move back home. My father used to always say "im not moving to Canada to become a 2nd class citizen".
If you have extra money wherever you are, stay! Unless, no offense, youre part of the middle-lower class then maybe coming here would be good. Most Immigrants prefer it here cos where they come from, its terrible and they simply cant afford a decent life back home. Alot of these immigrants are after the benefits. The health benefits are good but you need to remember -free-. So, if you want very good doctors and care, its not here. Unless youre willing to pay and arm and a leg. Free health is no good. Also, pention is pathetic. Averaging 1-2,000 a month.
Think hard before you decide. Lots and lots of research and do talk to friends and family who are familiar. Good luck to you and your partner!

Hi there, I live in Canada. I just wanted to say, although I know very little about immigration, that I enjoy living in a country that has peace and that I don't have to worry about being beaten when I walk out the door. I don't know where you are emigrating from, but if you have the money and relations in Canada (just in case) you should definitely go for it, because it's peaceful and it's very diverse. I don't have to live in fear of a bomb dropping on my house, or walking on a landmine, and for this I am grateful.

Personally I'd stay away from the GTA, Greater Toronto Area, it is very expensive to live here and the people are very "white." Not to overgeneralize, but sometimes they can be very racist and materialistic because there is not a lot of diversity. I lived in Ottawa and I remember learning about and having interest in so many cultures, because there were so many children that were from other countries. The housing is also less expensive than in the GTA.

Hope I helped, I'm sorry I don't know anything about immigration/emigration! Good luck!

EDIT: I read Roz's post above me, um, there are houses being built all over the place (I live in GTA) lots of new subdivisions...so people who build houses would be needed. And the Canadian dollar was higher than the American dollar just a few months ago. Also we're recovering from the October stock market drop, but this happens every October, apart from that, the economy is very stable. My mom has never gone backrupt in the 43 years she's been alive, and I can't say I know anyone else who has.

There is a shortage of workers in certain fields (especially the trades) and the government has established a program to address this concern. You don't mention which province you are thinking of relocating to, but do a search on the internet for Provincial Nominee Program. Here is the link for PNP in BC...
