Should you tip room service on top of the service charge? |
Room service bills usually include a room service charge. Should you tip also or does the charge cover the service component? |

No. All they are doing is setting up the food for you. Its not like they are going to wait and get you a refill on a drink. I think the service charge is enough. At the Palms they charge a gratuity, depending on how much the food is. The server gets that as a tip.
But if there is not a room service gratuity then of course tip. |

YOU CAN ASK THE DESK IF THIS IS TRUE,
OTHERWISE PICTURE YOURSELF CLEANING UP AFTER SOMEONE AND
YOU WOULD APPRIECIATE SOMETHING. YOU MAY GET EXTRA TOWELS. |

I always have tipped them before. But one thing to make sure of, a lot of hotels are now including a 15% gratuity automatically. Since a lot of people don't tip, they include it in the bill. So you should look on the menu or the paperwork you receive, it will usually say if it is included. That way you know you aren't paying twice.
But I've always included the standard tip for room service. |

Yes, you should tip the server that brings you the room service. Servers are only paid a pittance, most people do not realize that. |

Most hotels usually include a 10 to 15% gratuity in the room service charge. |

If we're talking ethics... I think it would depend on what the worker's job entailed of. I, personally, think that it is an individual's decision. |

I have an article on tipping at a hotel here. It says: Bellhop $2-3 for carrying bags, Maid $2 per day, Deliveries to room $2, Doorman $1-2 for hailing a cab (more if weather is bad), and concierge $5-20 for acquiring near to impossible tickets. The reason The hotel charges a fee for room service is because it is a loosing proposition. The labor cost and food cost make the profit margin very slim. But room service is an expectation at a full service hotel. The 2 dollars is likely not to cover the delivery mans wage. Leave a buck or two on the plate when you are done. |

Absolutely. The room service charge generally goes to the establishment rather than the server. People should also tip their housekeeping staff when they leave. |

Yes, you should tip the person that brings you your room service if they do a good job. |
