A lot of native Nova Scotians live in each one.
They both have Conservative provincial governments.
You can go skiing on the slopes in both provinces.
tar: The Tar Sands in Alberta, the Tar Ponds in Sydney.

I don't know if this is necessarily what you're looking for, but I'm from Alberta and living in Nova Scotia and both places have a lot of wind.

Otherwise they are pretty much polar opposites as far as I can see.
No mountains or prairie in Nova Scotia. And it's humid and hotter here.

I think you have to go way back in time to when the earth was forming. I suppose both provinces were once tropical forests and swamps. (They both have oil - Alberta is on land, Nova Scotia's is offshore.) Both have dinosaur remains. Alberta's a bigger and newer - about 100 million years old. Nova Scotia's dinosaurs are 300 million years old.

Other than that, I'm stumped.

i know this is not helping your cause, but i tried to think of some things for a good 5 minutes and nothing came to mind.

tar is a good one though, the poster above me is right on with that (sadly)
