There's confusion because of Quebec's insistence that it's a "nation", derived from the Latin for birth, as opposed to a country ("pays" in French).

As far as Answers is concerned , it's apparently a language thing only.

Since the last time this question was asked about three days ago. And the time before that, and before that and before that........

The fact that they are listed below has nothing to do with their status as a country or not as a country. It has to do with the differences in language and the fact that they have their own area. In fact, the heading on that area states "Answers International" not "Answers by Country".

How come you don't ask when Hong Kong became a separate country again or when the Spanish speakers in the US became residents of their own country?

If you are going to try to rock the boat and inflame people about nothing, at least try to do it with some intelligence and reasoning.

Uh......it isn't. Its a province of Canada.

When are people going to learn to use the "search" function? If you had, you would realize this exact question is asked about 100 times per week. The link at the bottom of Y/A to Quebec, is due to French being Quebec's first language. Thus its nice to have a separation of English/French questions, so one does not have scroll needlessly, page after page, looking for one in your language of choice. The flag used, is Quebec's provincial flag. All provinces have one.

Since when is there a country called en Español?

Quebec was a colony when it was occupied by the French during Canada's fur-trading days. Since 1867, it has been a part of Canada so, technically, it has never been a country.

smart guy
It`s not.It`s a province in Canada.

BouncingBack
umm it's not. It's a province

I should know. i live in Quebec.

freeside49
it identifies a linguistic group not a nation. French in Quebec are a unique lingustic group served by Yahoo
"en spanola USA" is not a "nation either and its listed too .
