Canada Is by Roger Whittaker would be great for an English project as background music for the video.
It is a folk song, and probably not something an average teenager would listen to, but is a song no one at school but the teacher may really have heard, and fits the requirements quite nicely. |

The best for that would be 'Something to Sing About' - lists all the area of the country, etc. Lyrics follow, melody is perky -

Another is 'Canada Is..." by Roger Whittaker. Each set of lines mentions a different part of the features of Canada, so you could match images to it... |

Gordon Lightfoot "Railroad Trilogy"
fits the bill exactly ! Check it out !
Gordon Lightfoot is born and raised Canadian, from Orillia Ontario, and presented this creation I think for Canada's Centennial celebrations. I think it was commissioned by the Prime Minister of that time, and presented for national audience.
It describes the construction of the railroad that bound the country together, and the various kinds of scenery across the country, and should fit with your visual presentation of the different kinds of landscapes. |

Joni Mitchell is a Canadian artist. One song of hers, while not about Canada [it's really about a relationship breakup], mentions Canada, and is quite a beautiful song. Here are the lyrics:
A case of you
Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
And I said, constant in the darkness
Wheres that at?
If you want me Ill be in the bar
On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue tv screen light
I drew a map of canada
Oh canada
And your face sketched on it twice
Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
Oh and you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you
I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh Id still be on my feet
Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
Im frightened by the devil
And Im drawn to those ones that aint afraid
I remember that time that you told me, you said
Love is touching souls
Surely you touched mine
Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
And you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you
I could drink a case of you darling
Still Id be on my feet
And still be on my feet
I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
And she said
Color go to him, stay with him if you can
Oh but be prepared to bleed
Oh but you are in my blood youre my holy wine
Oh and you taste so bitter, bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
Still Id be on my feet
Id still be on my feet |

Stompin' Tom Connors's songs are all about Canadian life. He's got the great sacred song: The Hockey Song, Bud the Spud, The Man in the Moon is a Newfie, stuff like that. He's great.
Michael Buble ---Home
Land of the Silver Birch--traditional Canadian song
Gordon Lightfoot--Alberta Bound, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
I could go on and on....the bottom site has a whole pile of them. |
