Stay in Greyhound Station? |
Hi
I'm taking Greyhound from San Francisco to Vancouver, but I'll be arriving there at 2:30am. I'll take a flight at 10:30am to Australia. Where should I stay? Can I stay in the Greyhound Station? Is it safe? |

When I working at the Hound station a few years ago, there was a hostel across pretty much across the street. If you walk out the main doors of the station, go straight until you get to the main road (other side of the park), turn right and walk, you'll see a hostel/bar place on your right hand side. I stayed there and it was decent, although I can't remember the rates, something like 50 bucks for the night, although I'm not 100% on that.

If you don't want to rent a hotel room, you'd be better off to take the Airporter bus from the Greyhound Depot out to the Vancouver International Airport. It's a more pleasant place to wait and has amenities, like cafeterias, coffee shops and washrooms. There are also video games to play, computers to use, and lots more stuff to pass the time than you'll find in the Greyhound Depot. And, because of checkin regulations at YVR, you're assured of a more secure place to wait. There is a hotel that is part of the airport too, so you could rent a room and get a decent sleep before you fly our the next morning.
Too bad about the long gap before you fly out, because that's a long trip all by itself!
Come back and see Vancouver some time! |

I think you will be fine. That particular terminal is not too bad. If it were LA, I would say no way. But that is a nice terminal. Bring a blanket in your carry-on, that terminal is a little cool this time of year.
Good luck. |

The bus depot is at the train station which is closed at 2:30 a.m.
http://www.viarail.ca/train-stations/en-station-vancouver-british-columbia.html
The earliest Airport Bus Route #3 (http://www.yvrairporter.com/xPdf/Schedule2006.pdf)
leaves at 7:22 am Bus Depot Bay #4 and arrives at 8:08 am
There is no municipal bus service on this route this early in the
morning.( http://www.translink.bc.ca/default.asp)
Approximate charges for taxi's are $23-$26 CAN. 24 hrs. day
I think your best bet is to go to the airport directly on arriving.
Go by taxi. There is a Fairmont Hotel at the International Terminal. The Fairmont Hotel is very highly rated.

Canada is pretty cool and you won't have much time, so yeah, stay at the station. They might even have a place right at the station for just such situations. |
