You should learn that it is very hard for americans to get work permits there. Its damn near impossible. So get ready to be unemployed.

Finance, Retail, IT, HealthCare, Trade-person, and self-employment.

You do not need to learn french. Health care would be a good idea; you don't have to be a nurse, but you can be a Care Aide; they are paid pretty well and I think it only takes a few months to get your certificate...That's in BC

People had good thoughts when they suggested you get working on a visa. But, think about where you want to live first I would say. Jobs are plentyful these days but only in certain areas, and certain fields. You'd likely get hired on the spot in Calgary if you knew anything about construction (or even if you don't) for example.

You need a job lined up before you go and a working visa to allow you into the country.

If you're doing a job where you've got to deal with the public you MUST have French, or forget about the whole idea.

I think french would be a really really good. Not to mention basic understanding of cultural activites and places. Oh, and take a look at Canada's history and politics, just to be careful. Specifically know the capital city and the Prime Minister's name.

Also, try not bring up the following things:
- Iraq War +George Bush
- War of 1812
- The Summer Olympics
- and Toronto if you're not in Toronto (unfortunately)

French is our second language so if you are fluent in French, you may have more possibilities.

You need to get a job offer so that the company helps you to get a work visa. Otherwise, you will most likely be rejected of even entry unless you are from the UK or U.S.

I would start with learning french.

it's not that easy. you can't just come across and work. you need a green card or work visa. it takes time to get one. you need a job before you can get a work visa, and it's just temporary.
Plus if you tell customs you're coming here to look for work they will just turn you around at the border. and sometimes if you lie to them about why you are coming here, and they think you're lying they may tell you you have a time limit here and if you don't report back to them by a certain date, they put out a warrant for you. But that works the same if we go there.
