Probably not if it's a US owned airline. |

No. No flights allow smoking anymore. Not in the US or anywhere else. |

False. Most airlines in North America and Europe ban smoking on all flights. |

False it is up to the airline |

i think no smoking on a plane is a rule of the airline, not the country. |

Are you kidding?
It was a fire in the lavatory on an Air Canada DC-9 back in 1987 that started the whole no smoking thing. We're stricter here in Canada. |

Definitely false...like everyone else has said, it's up to the airline.
On top of that, where on earth would you even get the idea that smoking is allowed up here? Canada tends to have much stricter rules than the US on smoking--though I did just check it out and Wikipedia says Washington has the strictest rules in the States. But Toronto (Ontario in general) is much stricter. You can't smoke ANYWHERE in the airport--all the designated smoking rooms were eliminated. No smoking in ANY public enclosed space. And starting later this year, you're not even allowed to display cigarettes in a convenience store--everything MUST be OUT OF SIGHT. |

WRONG. There is no longer any smoking on flights anywhere in North America or on North American carriers flying anywhere in the world. Light up and you will have the police waiting for you upon landing. Not a good idea. |

False. At the very least the RCMP will be eagerly awaiting your arrival at landing in Toronto. More likely the flight crew will have you cuffed to your seat for the duration of your flight. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the only airline in the world that still allows smoking on their flights is Air France. That was a few years back though and it's probably changed by now. |

False. To light up a cig, you would need a match or lighter. Both are prohibited on flights. |

False.
The airline you choose announces whether smoking is allowed on a flight. It is usually clearly marked on your ticket, and announced by the captain at the beginning of the flight.
The fines for lighting up are pretty severe, with penalties of $1000 or more depending on where you are caught smoking (seat, bathroom, kicthen area, etc), and whether you tampered with the smoke detectors to try and get away with it.
As far as I know, all of the Westjet and Air Canada flights are non-smoking, and most flights under three hours in continental US and Canada are also non-smoking.
The air in any aircraft is bad enough, the rest of the passengers do not need to be exposed to cancer risks from your second hand smoke too. |
