Taking my best friend to Canada.? |
My sister has a cheer competition in Canada and my family and I are driving. My best friend wants to go too. We are driving so passports are not required. Does my mother need to have some papers or need documents from her parents? Her parents are ok with the whole thing so it is not kidnapping or anything. Thank you. |

If your friend is under 18 she will need a notarized letter of consent from her parents(both if applicable) giving permission for her to cross the border and travel in Canada. It should state where she is going, where she is staying, who she is going with, how long she will be gone, when she will be back type thing, as well as have all their contact info address(home, work) phone numbers (cell, home, work) and make note of the number they can be reached at during anticipated time of crossing.
Prior to June 1, 2009 she will only require her birth certificate if under 18, 18 and older need government issued photo id(ex drivers license) and birth certificate June 1, 2009 and later you all will need passports or WHTI approved documentation(see link below)

You will DEFINTALY need letters from both parents showing that it is okay having your friend with you. however the best thing to do would be to look up boarder crossing guide lines for crossing from USA to canada to know exactly whats needed so there are no suprises |

If she is a minor, you need to have a notarized statement from her parents authorizing her to go with you. And you will all need to have photo ID and birth certificates if you don't have passports. |

you need a letter from both parents. 2 pieces of id (if you have 2 pieces) and phone numbers are good too. Canadians are pretty understanding just don't ask us about igloos or sled dogs. and don't ask the nice guys/girls to say Eh! |

She should be find speaking for herself but just to be safe I'd have a notarized letter from her mother saying it's fine for her to travel. I get a letter like that for my own kidlets when they travel to the US with my mother in law to shop in Buffalo. |

How old is she?
As long as she is not a baby and can speak for herself you'll be okay. |

Are you sure about the passport thing? I think it's mandatory now to have them, even when driving across the border. Plus, having a passport makes it much easier, I've done both, and it took a few minutes a while ago when it was just docs, but recently i had a passport, and its was like, hello goodbye. I guess with the documents, it's better to be safe then sorry, so a signed note form her parents would probably make it easier. And if u go to a gov agency for your passport, it only takes like a day or two to get it. |
