Teachin job in Canada? |
Hello Canadians,
I currently live in Brazil and I am a math professor teaching Linear Algebra and I also can teach chemistry. I speak many languages including French so that may be a benefit to teach in Canada (primarily Quebec). My salary is very low here. I get only about $1000 every month and as a Professor I believe I need more than that.
I was wondering what the average salary is there in Canada for Professors teaching in Universities or teachers teaching in Highschools.
I'd also like to move to Canada to teach there. My main concern is not knowing if there is any teaching jobs in Quebec. Does anyone know a school that's hiring or do you have any information at all to share regarding my situation. I'd love to know where they are hiring or where I should throw my application to. Any source I can get this information or does anybody know?
Any answer will be appreciated. Thank you. =) |

Average pay for your job is about $80,000 per year for a college level professor and about $40 to 50 K for high school
Each county has their own board of education, so i suggest you decide where you want to live and send your resume to them or the surrounding counties.
Good luck |

Contrary to the first point, you don't have to be British to get a job, what you need is a relevent degree. I am not British and I have a great job in Canada, and I love Canada.
A professor teaching 2 courses in most Canadian universities will get you about $7000 a month, while a job at a high school will get $3000 a month.
Please make sure you have a job secure before investing in the time to come to Canada, as you may disappointed. We make more here, but everything is more expensive as well. Also a degree from one country may not be held in the same regard as a degree from Canada, or the U.S. so beware. There are many doctors driving taxi cabs in Canada because their degrees are not recognized. |

If you're good at your French, you may want to apply directly to Quebec; they actively encourage and facilitate French-speaking immigrants. |

Bonne chance! |

Unfortunately, there don't seem to be a lot of openings for teachers right now. The reasons are many - the population hasn't increased at the same rate as teachers retiring, for one.
Teachers here are paid a decent rate and their retirement pensions are good and get higher the longer you work, so many teachers don't retire early like military or private sector workers.
All I can tell you is I have a handful of friends who have recently completed teacher's college and have had trouble finding permanent positions, and they are Canadian citizens - so you can eliminate the racist theory right there. |
