Things to do in Vancouver, BC, Canada? |
I'm going on an Alaskan cruise in June, and we embark at Vancouver. So, I'll be up there for a few days to check out the city. Where should I go in or near Vancouver? Anything that has to do with nature would be great, and I'm not interested in museums or the like. I can easily find tons of activities and attractions in Vancouver, but I want you to help me narrow it down. What are must sees up there? Specifics would really help. Thanks! |

The first poster said Buschart Gardens. It's Butchart Gardens, it's lovely in June but it's in Victoria which makes it a very long day trip from Vancouver. Vancouver has Van Dusen Gardens. Even though you say you aren't interested in museums, you should consider the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia which has some very good native stuff and might give you a little info on what used to be on the coast you'll be travelling past, and on the way to UBC is Spanish Banks and Jericho beach, excellent walking areas and if the weather's good they are fabulous places to hang out. Capilano Suspension Bridge is great, nice rainforest around, and Lynn Valley Park is the same. Stanley Park has a seawall all around it so you can walk around the whole park and view the harbour. If the weather is decent, perhaps a day trip out to Horseshoe Bay, you can get there on one bus from Georgia Street, have some fish and chips there, watch the ferries come and go, and the Bowen Island ferry leaves from there, Bowen makes a good day trip. You can walk for some miles directly off the ferry on Bowen, towards and around Killarney Lake, very good walking trail. I lived on Bowen for some years, if you want info I've got it. |

Well when are you coming? If it's winter, our mountains (grouse, seymour, cypress) have a lot of activities like snowboarding, skiing, skating, snowshoeing, dogsledding, tubing, sledding. Summer you can go up there and do biking, the grouse grind (it's like a hike up to the top of the mountain). Umm... I would recommend getting a day pass for the bus and just go exploring, because bus fare is expensive. There's so much to do, it's really up to you!
Since you are in to nature, take the sea bus in to north van, go to the mountains, stanley park, queen elizabeth park, capilano bridge.... pick up a brochure they have all the popular stuff like that. |
