You may want to check out this website.

You should check out Commercial Drive for funky stores and places to eat. You should take the time to explore West 4th Avenue and Broadway which are close to UBC.

I was there last month.
1) Capilano Bridge & Rain Forest....Fun 1/2 day.
2) You gotta see Whistler, it's about 2 hours each way from Vancouver, but it's gorgeous! We spent the night there, and had a great 2 days. We took ATVs up one of the mountains, that was fun!!!
3) Of course, go to the beach....
4) There's a cool open-air market in China Town, good cheap stuff, and some great restaurants near there.
5) Great restaurants all over Vancouver!
6) Check out Commercial Street....it's like the Hippy part of town, if that's even a word....lots of ecclectic shops and the best Italian food I've ever had...can't remember the name of the restaurant, but it was on a corner. Yum!
7) Of course you have to take bikes through Stanley Park. Don't be afraid to get on the trails, some of the off-the-beaten-path rides are breathtaking! If you stay on the paved roads, you'll be dodging cars, and it's just not as fun.
8) Go out clubbing! Vancouver natives are SUPER NICE, and they seem to be happy & ego-free....Just meet some people and have a good time!

I hope this helps!

UBC and Simon Fraser are two awesome institutions. Completely different, but both great.
Granville Island is always fun, the Lynn Valley Swinging Bridge (and the whole Lynn Valley complex) is great. If you're interested in paddling, you could go to Deep Cove, rent a kayak and paddle in some of the most beautiful scenery you'll ever see. During the last week in August, the PNE is on -- that's a combination of Exhibition, Farm Fair, Horse Racing, Auto Racing, Playland, Rides, Games and a ton of other stuff.
Or you could hop on HelloBC.com to get a few more ideas.
Have a great visit!
