This is for Canadians?

Do you think it funny that we know more about the American President then we do about our own Prime Minister? Its like no one gives a crap about Harper. lol

.
who's the american president ?

Curious Penguin
It's mostly media hype. A lot of the channels and TV shows we watch are American. Stephen Harper just has dead, cold, fishy eyes and isn't that interesting.

Zephora
Funny? I think it's ridiculous how Canadians seem to be obsessed with America's politics, stars, culture... When will they realize that Canada does not have to stand in the shadows of America?

On the other hand, maybe it's good, because I'd hate it if Canadians would become just as pompous as most Americans.

I have completely changed my mind about Canada, when can I move there. A country that isn't obsessed about politics and my kids don't have to swear allegiance to a flag every morning and hear from relatives how at 19 everyone was drafted to go fight in either Korea or Vietnam.
A health care system that actually works. Why don't Canadians brag more about their country or do they want to keep it a secret so the rest of us don't rush there.

boy
i'd say canadian teenagers and young adults aren't really a lot into canadian politics, or don't have a good understanding of it.

Dead Day Afternoon
They don't really care about Obama or any other American politicians more than Canadian politicians. It's just the media hype and celebrity they are caught up in. Why? Because it is forced on us. Personally, I love Canada and would never want to move to the US because it all seems so fake.

Wolfenstein
If Canada moved to a two-party system, there would be much more respect for the prime minister.

Also, Canada's prime ministers are naturally entitled to more privacy than American presidents.

I don't know that that extends further than media hype. When you turn on the tv and 90% of the channels are american, I expect that they will talk about the US, the president and such, as a good many of them don't even know we are up here.
As for when I get together with people, we do not discuss the president, we talk about things going on here, our government, and how things affect us. Maybe thats just the people I know, but I would like to think the hoopla surrounding Obama is merely rub off from the US. If its in our faces 24/7, its a bit hard to ignore.

little.miss.hot.lips
lol i know!
i thought that was funny too.
i also agree with the other answers.
my friends and i really don't know much about politics/ really care enough to pay attention.

Alicja.B - a.k.a- Ali
well yes, I mean it's because we see more news on tv , or news papers about america then canada itself because mostt of the tv we watch comes from the US. I agree. but I care about whats going on still like I live here and I'm a teenager so yeah.

Candy Supportin Cunucks & Canada
I was thinking about that... and well Canada's Politics isn't so hyped! and there's it's ups and it's downs for that! As long as we know we have a Prime Minister, his name, and the fact he's helping this great nation then it's all good!

lorie v
Oh that hurts because its so true!

Nope because we dont, Cdns tend to be better educated in world politics and take an interest in world politics, not just what is happening inside their own country, I like the new Prime Minister of the United States though !!

Kidding, I thought Harper was their Prime Minister didnt you?

Ok I am through making fun of our neighbours, my answer stands, we are better educated and more informed about other countries because we chose to be !!

Now what did you want to know about Harper? Is he an idiot? yes. Is he a good Prime Minister? hell no Did he learn how to lie from listening and watching Bush? Probably not, he was probably born a liar. Anything else?

Yes! Totally agree. It's because America is a really powerful and dominant country, and everyone around the world always hears about the U.S. Also, I think because so many celebrities are from there, everyone knows about the news and events going on. I mean, sure, some Americans care about Canadian politics, but we aren't all that interesting I have to admit.....plus presidents who are campaigning go on all types of talk shows (Ellen, tyra banks, Oprah, and The View), because they are in America, and people all over the world watch them.

man
when the media is controlled by a govern you hear only what they want u to,you do not hear that canada is the secound worst greenhouse gas producer,or suicide rates among natives met a new high,so many ppl cut off social aid while the leaders get fat
