What is the normal rate to tip a taxi driver in Toronto - prefer answers from people living/working in Toronto

suebie
I tip about $2. If it was a very short ride then a $1 is ok.

I do live in Toronto and I tip at least 2 dollars and more if it's a high amount on the metre.Same rate as if it were a restaurant.

ephony
about $2-3 dollars or 15%

Mightymo
15% just like in Restaurants

Clock Watcher
15% is a good measure if they go the extra mile for you. OTher than that...$2.

i live in toronto and use a taxi about everyweek, i never tip because the rides already overpriced. i had conversations with them and they helped me put stuff in the cab and they tell me stuff tooo and i never tip them and they never asked either

There is no need to tip unless the driver did something for you - got your bags, told you stuff, had a great converstion, whatever. Lots of cabbies don't talk to customers, for many reasons - personal safety is one.

If you do, it really only needs to be nominal. Nothing more that $5. Taxi fair is ridiculous and goes up every few months.
