If you're travelling by air, you must have a passport book.

If you're travelling by land/sea, you could use one of the following:
a) a passport book
b) a passport card
c) a government-issued photo ID (e.g. driving licence) AND proof of citizenship (e.g. birth certificate, citizenship card)
d) WHTI-compliant travel document e.g. NEXUS card

There is no visa requirement. Get some Canadian dollars, and like everyone else had advised, it's important to pack for winter weather.

Have your air tickets ready too if you're flying. If you're driving, make sure your vehicle is equipped to drive in icy conditions (and don't forget to bring your driving licence with you). Also, have a good map and/or a GPS to help with navigation if you're driving.

Book for your accommodation in Canada if you're not staying with friends/family. Have a good guide book to the cities/places that you intend to visit. Check the official tourist board website to see if there's any special events that may be of interest to you and that you don't want to miss.

At home, if there's no one at home (eg everyone in the house going on the same holiday, you live by yourself), entrust a friend/neighbour with your keys who can call over to check the house every couple of days, to pick up the post etc.

If you have pets that are not travelling with you, organise for someone to come over and pet-sit, or to have a kennel where your pets can be looked after while you're away.

Switch off and unplug appliances which are not in use, and if you're living somewhere where it is cold right now with the wintry weather, I would say don't turn off the heating completely - reduce the number of hours it runs if you must - you don't want to deal with bursting pipes and other problems associated with extreme cold when you return. And it's nice too to not return straight into a freezing home.

Have a good trip.

depends if you're flying or not. if you're driving over, you need to forms of ID, E.I. photo ID and birth cirtificate. and tons of warm clothes. If your flying, you need a passport.

Ed P
We are metric and drive in kilometres per hour A kilometre six tenths of a mile 100 kmh is 60 mph all so car insurance warm clothing. If your coming to BC go to hellobc for free info

Are you coming from the United States? If you're a US citizen you'll need a passport unless you're arriving by road in which case you'll need at least two pieces of governnment issued photo id. Next month is February so we'll still be very frozen here. Bring some warm clothes, a good winter jacket/coat and boots are a must. Bring Canadian money or travelers checks...other than that things are pretty similar.

Warm winter clothing - toque, scarf, mitts, snow boots.

Gov't issued photo ID to get into Canada and a valid passport to get back into your country of origin.

Visible means of support for the time you are in Canada.

Cancel paper, hold mail and unplug all appliances before leaving home.

Have a great time in the Great White North aka Canada.

Yes you need a passport. Also you need some warm clothing and a winter coat. There is at least 6 inches of snow on the ground here in Toronto and more over nearly all the country. Bring a credit card and money.Maybe bring a guide book. Read it first and decide what you want to do before you come.

yes, and canadian money... and take a birth cert so you can get back in the usa.

Elise
Yes, you do need a passport. You're going out of the country right? You'll also have to book a flight, unless you want to drive.

Cyclebum
No passport apparently to visit, but you may need one now to get back in the US.
