Toronto Crime?

How bad is the crime in Toronto? I'm visiting family for the first time in the don mills area and i've heard it can be pretty bad there (not by the family reading online and such). What sorts of crime are we speaking of? Is it worse then say Chicago?

Don Mills is a bad area. I've lived in Flemington, it's not pretty at all.

Up your Maslow
I live in Don Mills.
If you even hear about crime in this area, it's unusual.
Unless you're female and like to go around alone at night in strange places, you have nothing to worry about.
Really, Toronto is a ***** cat compared with Chicago!
I've been to the South Side, so I know.

Come on up and leave you worries at home.

If you grew up in Chicago, the thugs in Toronto will probably be scared of you...

Reva P
No.

It depends on the area of the city that you're visiting and the time of the day. Common sense.

Since you're visiting family, why not ask them directly.

I have been to Chicago. Toronto is not as bad. Believe it or not Edmonton has worse crime statistics than Toronto.

Capri
Don Mills is a safe area to visit or Live except few Appt. Buildings near that Shopping Mall (747 don Mills)
I think only Jane & wilson r Jane & Finch is a grey area
rest of the Toronto is OK

Just remember when watching the news to put it in perspective - the GTA has over 5.5 million people and last year had like 30 murders. The crime rate in Toronto is the lowest of all Canada's big cities...trailing even Halifax and Winnipeg.

There are more murders in Chicago in a year than all of Canada in 8 years combined!

Come to Toronto and have fun, but use your head - its a big city where you should not be naive

Toronto, used to be a very safe city, but in the past few years we've been getting more youth crime,ie; gangs and street muggings. I would urge you to be cautious when walking alone at night, and be on guard during the day.

Jim Justice
Toronto as a city is one of the safest cities in the world.
Don mills however is one of the most run down parts of the city.
but not the highest in crime.
Don mills is more drug related crime then random acts of violence.
I would not worry to much.
Toronto is a great city.
But it is better to live in the west end where i am.
You feel comfortable walking alone at night here.

Toronto is a relatively safe city. Take the usual precautions and all will be well. Don Mills is safe.

There is the usual killing or driveby shooting pretty much every nite on the news...But don't forget Toronto GTA is North America's 5th largest city. Incl. Mexico City
