Toronto or Buffalo which is better??? |
I'm strongly considering living in either city can anyone tell me which city would be a better place over all to live, I notice rental prices are low as $450 in Buffalo/Niagara Falls area while Toronto runs about $1,200 per month, anything anyone wants to add? |

Ok are you talking about the city of Buffalo, or the suburbs. People on here are talking about safety of the city saying that Buffalo is ghetto and unsafe. I have rented three different apartments thoughout what is generally referred to as "Buffalo" which usually includes the suburbs when talking about Buffalo to people who aren't from here and I have never had a safety issue. My rent in the suburbs has run from 425 for a nice two and a half BR upper in Cheektowaga, to 675 for a 3 BR duplex in West Seneca, and 550 for a two BR lower in Kenmore (which was one block away from the actual city of Buffalo). You CANNOT find this kind of rent in such good areas in Toronto. I hate Toronto, there's too many non-English speaking people and too many homeless bums walking all over the place and yelling at you if you don't give them handouts. Stick to the states, you won't regret it.
I should also say that the rent I stated above is not for places in apartment complexes, i.e. utilities are not included and I have all my own appliances. But utilities only cost me about 100 bucks more a month. And I know people who have rented utility inclusive apartments for 550 and up in nicer areas like by UB in Amherst or Raintree in Tonawanda. |

Let me be honest with you. Buffalo is like a ghetto with ubiquitous poverty and more crime than Toronto. Toronto is more like a mega city right up there on the top with places like London, New York and Tokyo albeit without the crime of New York and it's also much smaller than the three. Toronto is extremely clean and safe and I don't even know how you can compare between Buffalo and Toronto. It's like comparing Kinshasa with Paris. |

Even though Toronto ON appears to be a lot more expensive than Buffalo NY, it sounds a lot safer too.
A good reason to move there, especially if you're raising kids!
How about moving just outside Toronto instead?
It might be cheaper to live there... just a thought.
As long as you have a car, what seems to be the problem/hold up?
Good luck to you chief! |

Yes, Toronto is WAAAY better than Buffalo, NY. Just go to Buffalo and look across the Niagara River to the Canadian side... then go Fort Erie (Canadian side of river) and look over at Buffalo. Toronto is so much cleaner, friendlier and safer than Buffalo. I have been to a grocery store in Buffalo where they have armed guards.... yes, armed guards. Now that's Gangsta.
Although Toronto is very expensive, if you looked just a bit more south - such as Niagara Falls, Thorold, Fort Erie, Ridgeway I am sure you would find very nice, affordable places to live and you would be right in the middle of both cities. |

My advice is that you check out the individual location for apartments in both. Yes, Buffalo has a bad rep if you were going to ask someone in Toronto, and yes its overall crime rate is much higher. But if work/commute is the same for both and you're fine with living in a more medium sized city rather than a large city, then Buffalo may be worth the price. Make sure you check out the surrounding area though, because there are a lot of deteriorated neighbourhoods.
BTW, Toronto is not in the same category as New York or London on the world scale, despite what the condo salespeople say. I live near Toronto and it's time for Toronto to develop its own identity, not say "we're on par with so and so". |

I've been to Buffalo a few times, and live in Toronto. The cost of living in Buffalo is alot cheaper than Toronto, but Buffalo is grimey, ghetto, dangerous, etc etc etc. Yes sure, there are non-English speaking people in Toronto, because Toronto is quite multi cultureal.
Honestly, if you like multiculturalism, move to Toronto. If you want to be surrounded by the same kind of people, then go to Buffalo.
The roads in Buffalo suck so much I had to get a realignment on my G coupe after spending a day there, lol.
BTW, Toronto is not regarded as a 1st tier world city. NY, Tokyo, London and Paris are. Toronto, however is regarded as a 2nd tier world city, in the same as L.A., Frankfurt, Sydney. |

Well depends on you. Weather is pretty much the same. But Toronto has the Sky dome (rogers centre), the C.N tower and TONNSSS of things to do. Err as for prices, you have to remember the currency changes and which one REALLY is the better deal. Personally i wouldnt chose toronto OR buffalo. I would choose Mississauga, its a cleaner, healthier, friendlier (cheaper) city, and its located 30 minutes from toronto. |
