Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is really beautiful and the SK side has a really cool interpretive centre.
In Alberta...Lethbridge has the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens. Cardston has the LDS temple (a provincial historical site) and tons of museums including the Remington Carriage Centre and the Card House. Very cool! Most of the museums are free. Moving west, the Crowsnest Pass is very interesting (and tragic) and has some beautiful scenery.
Depending upon when you are in the province, the Calgary Stampede is the first full week in July. The Medicine Hat Stampede is the second last weekend (I think...that's terrible! I used to live there and we submit art to the art show every year! Sorry...I'll look it up.) Most communities have fairs and events at some point during the summer and they are lots of fun. Sylvan Lake, Medicine Hat and Calgary all have outdoor waterslides, and the West Edmonton Mall has an indoor waterpark.
Alberta has so many good campsites, and tons of fun things to do all summer! The hard part is choosing. |

In Alberta, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper - the typical tourist places. Calgary Zoo is phenomenal! |

Our site: Charming Country Inns lists several places in both provinces that offer wonderful alternative to travel lodges. Not only can you find a quaint inn or B&B to stay at, but many of these places' website offer information on the activties and attractions nearby. This is a good way to get ideas - from locals who live and work in their town in the hospitality industry. You'll not find friendlier people when traveling. |
