No, you can't. You would need insurance to get health care in Canada. And that insurance would not likely cover elective surgery. |

you can have the surgery if you like... but you'll have to pay for it.
that movie is a lie... it so doesn't work like that in canada. heck, even citizens and residents have to pay a monthly premium to maintain their health insurance... so why would tourists get free service? |

No you need to:
be a Canadian citizen or have immigration status as set out in Ontario's Health Insurance Act, (or other province you go to)
and
make your permanent and principal home in Ontario, (or other province)
and
be physically present in Ontario (or other province) 153 days in any 12-month period (some provinces have 183 days)
Without these three things, you will be denied health care in Canada.
Health care is either paid in your taxes (like Ontario & Manitoba) or through a monthly premium (like BC or Alberta). That is why you need to meet the criterium I have....Canadian taxpaying money is providing the service for Canadians. Only some things require up front costs for us.
Tourists do not qualify for Canadian health care. |

Socialized medicine is great - but it is only available to Canadian citizens and landed immigrants. If you are on vacation and a citizen of some other country, you will be billed for whatever procedures you have done. |

No .Health care is offered to Citizens OF Canada only
The high taxes that Americans sometimes laugh at on here goes into paying for our health care the rest is subsidized by the goverment .
Sorry their is no free rides .
It is just like a canaidna going to America we can not expect just to take advanatge of american things for free
YOU will have to pay |

Canadians do not pay for medical care themselves, but the cost of healthcare comes from the taxes we pay. As a Canadian I pay nothing to any doctor. Anyone from another country who needs medical care in Canada will have to pay for it out of there own pocket. You didn't actually think that Canada provides free healthcare to anyone on the planet who wants it, did you? |

Health care in Canada is for residents ONLY |

The free Canadian health care system is for Canadian residents. You could certainly get the surgery you require in Canada, but it wouldn't be covered under our health plan unless you were a resident of Canada for at least three months.
I just watched SICKO - and I gotta tell you, I feel sorry for Americans... |

Not all coverage is free, many people do have to pay but it is under $100 per month for a family.
The only way you could get surgery in Canada for free, is if your healthcare plan would allow it. It wouldn't be free just because you come into the country for a visit. |
