Buffalo Canadian

Was Brian Mulroney the greatest Prime Minister Canada has ever seen?

Here are some of his contributions:

1. The GST. This tax is the reason why Canada is no longer in recession.

2. Free trade. It creates prosperity.

3. Meech and Charlottetown accords to defend a strong federalist Canada.

This has to be a joke. Mulroney is the most hated Prime Minister in Canadian history. The GST tax was an outrage, and seceding governments have attempted to scrap it. The best they've done is to reduce it. Free trade did not create prosperity in Canada. The Meech Lake Agreement and the Charlottetown Accord were both defeated.

Nice try. I can't believe I'm the only commenter to notice this. That speaks volumes.

Actually, according to surverys done in the past Biran Mulroney is widely agreed as the worst and most disliked Prime Minister in Canadian History.

He's no Trudeau. GST is why we are no longer in recession??? I don't think so. Free trade doesn't create prosperity at all; just ask people who deal in lumber. And I doubt he will ever be regarded as highly as Pearson.

No

1. GST takes money out of my pocket and why in the hell should I pay GST on certain items (hygenie for one)? I'm all for taxing because I agree it improves the economy, but taxing my every day items is crap. I can live without a car yes, but I can't live without other things and I am forced to pay tax on them.

2. Free trade doesn't work as Canadian companies are losing out

3. Meech and Charlottetown do nothing to defend Canada, these were 'we'll give you this if you shut up agreements'

HAPA CHIC
lol you must be joking !!!!!
You do realized he also left canada right after his position , because of accusation which were bieng tossed at him .He was so innocent he had to run and hide

CanProf
I'll give him Free Trade. GST was a technical reform and the accords both failed to come into effect.

I'm not Canadian, but I will try to answer this question based on my limited knowledge of recent Canadian history...

As far as post-Trudeau Canadian PMs go, Mulroney is probably the most highly regarded.

He certainly doesn't have Trudeau's personality, which undoubtedly helped make Trudeau a legend in Canadian politics.

It will be interesting to see how Canadian history will view Mulroney a generation from now. He may be viewed as highly as Lester Pearson.
