We are looking at immigrating and have debt?

Hmmm. Good question. I don't actually know (which doesn't help you much) but I suppose there wouldn't be too much your old creditor could do to follow you, however you would have a poor credit rating back home so if you were to return home say after a couple of years then that could cause you problems.

You cannot escape your legal debts .

The people or companies that you owe, can hire a local lawyer, in your new country, to sue you in the local courts. And they would win.

You didn't mention what country you intend to go to, but, here in Canada, we do credit checks on all potential immigration applicants, so you would likely be denied entry here. In addition we require all applicants to show that they have actual cash funds to support themselves, for a full year, before they arrive. At this time that amount, for a family, is 15,000 GBP.

Not only do you need the skills to enter most countries, but money too,esp saving. You need every penny while you get started.

Oh, if only it were that easy! I think many people struggling with debt would certainly try to take that route, and simply pick up and go to another country after they maxed out the credit cards or borrowed from a bank.

The simple fact is that the world today is a global economy. If you try to leave your country and come to Canada (or leave Canada and go elsewhere) to escape your debts, it is highly likely they will find you. The banks, credit card companies and others hire collection agencies whose job it is to hunt you down and try to get that money back.

Take an example of Mastercard. You leave Vancouver and go try to live in Europe. The Mastercard head office are likely to have a warning flagging your details, such as name, birthdate, passport number, or whatever was used to get your old debt-filled credit card. They may not be allowed to collect the funds you owe while "hiding out" in Poland, but you can be sure that if they figure out who you are, you will not be getting a new Mastercard...ever.

And when you are applying for immigration to a new country, many countries now do background checks on you to find out if you have outstanding warrants for an arrest, bank funds to pay for your immigration, and this may alert your creditors that "something is up".

Let's say you do manage to leave and go start a new life somewhere else. You are likely to be sued by the creditors, and if you went to any country that has a agreement for collecting debts on an international level, then the local courts in your new country can be asked to collect the debt you left behind.

There is big money in debt collection, and the rights to collect on any debts you have can be sold to private companies for them to try and get that money back.

if your in so much dept how are you going to afford to immigrate ?

it is not cheap to apply and you would not be entitles to any assistance before you can find work. You would have to have enough money to support yourself for some time as you are not guaranteed to find work right away

Depending on the Country, I.e. any EEC country, you could be deported.

you have to pay the people you owe will track you down.

there's no way of avoiding it

if you just move and not pay your breaking the law and will either owe more money or be arrested

probably nothing. it all depend how much you owe. i know 2 people who still live in this country who left there bank because of credit card bills, one was £10,000. they just started another account with a different bank. its been 3 and a half years now and never of them have heard a thing. but then again £10,000 is nothing to the banks these day. their more interested in the people robbing them of hundreds of thousands not tens of thousands. so as i said at the start depends how much you owe. Good luck anyway!!!!

First you would have to be given the permission to enter Canada. That would include a lengthy application (which you have to pay for), and includes a requirement to prove that you have sufficient skills / funds, so that you will not be a drain on the Canadian authorities.

With outstanding debt, you will obviously not meet these requirements, so it's best to sort your finances out, rather than running away from them.
