Weird facts/customs about Canada and Canadians?

Its for a french project, they need to be school appropriate and I need 5 or six.
Customs would be better, but since Canadians don't live that much differently than Americans, weird facts would be fine too. (:

The Terry Fox run!! Every year in Elementary School students run an x number of km and donate a toonie for cancer research in honour of Terry Fox (I would explain but that might take too long)

We use Loonies and Toonies (1 and 2$ coins)

We keep alot of the British spellings like FavOUrite and ColOUr

University is not College. They are different.

A Tuque is a type of hat

Thanksgiving, as previously mentioned

This doesn't go for everyone due to american influences but instead of "huh?" (i.e: Nice weather, huh?) most Canadians would say, Nice weather eh?

Over half of the players in the NHL are Canadian

Canada has more lakes than the rest of the world combined (according to one site)

Canada is a Native word meaning 'Big Village"

here, Canadian Bacon: Back Bacon

Quebec produces mroe than 2/3 of the worlds maple syrup!

the towel waving thing that everyone seems to do at Hockey games nowadays STARTED HERE IN VANCOUVER! Canucks rule:P

I've got a lot more buti'll stop there.

Lunchbox
I know that Canadians have ketchup flavored chips, but Americans don't.
Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October, while Americans celebrate it in November.
Hockey was actually invented in Canada, as well as Basketball.

That's all I can come up with right now, but I hope this gets you on the right track. ^_^
Good luck with your french project!

We say Please and Thank you to everything. Even when it's someone else bumping into us we say 'sorry'.

Our national sport is not hockey, as most think, but it's lacrosse.
We call them bunnyhugs, not hoodies.
We have fabulous desserts like saskatoon berries, nanaimo bars, buttertarts and bismarks.
Where I live, on the prairies, temps can go from -40 degrees Celsius in the winter to +40 degrees Celsius in the summer.
Though our winters can be cold, we have places which still record the most sunshine, and have set records.

The longest running TV show in Canada, since 1955, is "Hockey Night In Canada " on the CBC,TV network on guess what night ?

Saturday !!!

Saskatchewan is so flat, that if your dog runs away, you can watch him for 3 days.

Drumheller, in Sask has the most dino bones in the world.

There really is a place in Quebec that is called St Ann de Ha Ha.

These are some odd Canadian place names.

Medicine Hat. Cape Spear. Come By Chance, Joe Batt's Arm, Heart's Content. Hearts' Desire, and my favourite, Starvation Cove.

A Canadian guy wrote a book.....200 ways to use Duct Tape.

We have six time zones.

We pronounce the last letter of the alphabet as ZED, not ZEE.

We say that a truck is a semi trailer, not a sem eye trailer.

We hardly ever say "you all " However we do say "thank you " when someone does us a favour, and we like people who are polite.

If you drop your cell phone on a street in Canada, someone will pick it up and run after you, to give it back to you. We also open doors for each other, and will stop and help a tourist who is looking lost on the street.

Jim b. Toronto.

Ah dang, I was having a senior moment there....Thanks for the correction.

We're the second largest country in the world.

Some of the first settlers (from France) came here.

Every sign must be in both French and English (unless you're in Quebec - then it's only French).

Quebecois french is very different from, say, Parisian French. The accent is different and we use ridiculous words/phrases for numbers like 70 and 90.

Our money is muli-coloured.

The majority of our population lives in southern Ontario.

We still recognize the Queen of England (even though she does nothing).

One of our favourite treats is a pastry called "Beaver Tails".

P.S. Someone previously mentioned we wear poppies on Remembrance day. We do, but it's not just a Canadian custom. Most European countries wear them (they just look different) and some Middle-eastern and African countries that fought in the first world war as well.

not all Canadians like hockey
