What's the best part of Vancouver B.C. to live in? |
I wanna go to Film School there. I want a great, safe location. I enjoy outdoor activities too. Water , snow, and hiking activities. |

At times, if you don't live in the right place, Vancouver can be very depressive (especially through the rainy gray winters) Choosing the right location can really change your view on Vancouver, and it is really the best place in the world when you are in the right environment. For a gal, I would recommend living in a place where you are surrounded with people your age. This way you can meet new people easily. Kitsilano is the area near UBC, there are 3 long beaches, restaurants, and clubs. Young people are always out here, usually having a good time. Rent is also very cheap. You can get a 2 bed apartment for around 1200 a month. You can also try downtown, maybe yaletown, west end, or coal harbour. There are also many young people and you would probably be close to your school (if you are thinking of going to Vancouver Film School). Other areas like coquitlam, burnaby, surrey, and north/west vancouver are very family oriented, and you would probably NOT like the environment as much, however north/west vancouver are good if you go skiing or hiking regularly. |

You should think about North Vancouver. It's not far from downtown(if you're going to VFS), even on transit, it's quite safe, it's got excellent hiking and is close to three ski mountains(Grouse, Seymour, Cypress). Anywhere along or close to Marine Drive or Lonsdale is easy to get to and from. |

north van is great for people who like the outdoors, and you can take a 15 minute seabus trip across the inlet to get downtown. and conveniently, vancouver film school is just a couple blocks away. it's also a bit cheaper than living downtown. |

For hiking and snow your best place is the North Shore. It is much quieter but will be a commute across very busy bridge or by sea bus.
For water activities, being near other students and for good shops, restaurants and bars then Kitsilano is the best place. It has very long beaches and also some walks in Pacific Spirit park near UBC. It is also very safe. I spent a year living there and loved it. Also very easy to get downtown - say 20 minutes, depending on which bit of Kits your are in. I rented a double room in a shared house for $520 incl. |

You may want to think about the Commercial Drive area of East Vancouver....Its very close to downtown, but has a cool, artsy feeling to it. Tons of shops and restaurants.. and lots of old houses with rental accomodation in them.
North Vancouver is beautiful ( I work there) but the bridge is a pain, and housing is expensive. |

The simple rule is to NEVER cross a bridge to get to work or school. Otherwise you're OK anywhere people are not putting bars on their windows. But remember Vancouver is ried with Toronto as most expensive place to live in Canada.
And the outdoor activities are close enough anywhere you live. Though the very best place, Kitsilano is shockingly expensive.
See www.craigslist.org for ideas on housing prices. |
