Move to Vancouver. It's really nice out here. You've got the ocean, the mountains, parks, and the olympics~! |

Montreal, Quebec, but you would have to learn French to feel comfortable here. The rents in Toronto & housing is exorbitant compared to Montreal.15 minutes outside of Montreal , the west Island there are more English speaking residents there. Lachine the rents are still cheaper. A 4 1/2 you can still get for $550-$600.00.. We have beautiful quiet towns going west of Montreal right up to the Ontario boarder. We have lots of lakes also. The housing prices definetly keep people from going to Toronto, and the French language keeps people from coming to our beautiful province. |

TOWN?
Deep River, Ontario.--lots of natural resources--GREAT place to raise a kid and give them superior education. I grew up here. It's got the highest percentage of PhD per capita and is full of scientists from all over the globe=Atomic Energy=main industry.
Here's the town website:
http://town.deepriver.on.ca/
City? Montreal.
There's an English speaking section there but to really enjoy the city and fit in, it's wise to learn French--plus, French is a beautiful language and it's the French people who make Montreal such an amazing place to live. There's a really great jazz festival there. The winters are VERY COLD.
If you're looking for warmer winters(not much sometimes-but marginally at least) and longer summers--Toronto.
I live in Toronto but many people say the people are cold (I agree) It's not as friendly as Montreal...but it's still a nice city=clean and well organized--except for the transportation system-TTC always threatening to strike and raise the fares...the current cost of of TTC transportation ($2.75 each trip)=WAY higher than in San Francisco...yet the service much worse...so it depends on what your priorities are.Oh and rent in Toronto is insanely HIGH. Example: I know someone who lives in a 2 bedroom basement=$900 and that's considered a "DEAL". There's no clean water in Lake Ontario --at least I would not swim in it--though others do..very few. BUT we have tons of free swimming pools all over the city in summertime, including the amazing and largest swim tank in Canada at Sunnyside Beach.
There's also a place we Toronttonians can take a ferry to called Center Island and 2 other Islands one can commute to as well which provide an easy access and affordable "escape" from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The arts community in Toronto is cliquey...but if you like the arts-we have that...(I'm a portrait painter by trade and sell most of my work in Europe and in the USA)=Toronto is not a lucrative place to be an artist unless you're involved in some big time **nepotism.**
School system's fair to midland.
Depends what you're looking for in a place and employment opportunities/field of expertise because some towns' major industries may differ from your career. |

Thunder Bay is a good place I think. It's in northwestern Ontario, its a small city and there is some beautiful scenery (Thunder Bay is on the edge of Lake Superior) and its one of the most affordable in Canada. You don't have to worry about all the commotion of the big city and the US border is about a half hour away. The seasons are pretty good, although the winter lasts from november to march, so if you don't like the cold and the snow then don't bother. But, it's decently warm in the spring, summer and fall. I don't know if this is your cup of tea, but I think it's a pretty good place to live. |

Toronto or Vancouver. Montreal is nice too but very cold and you have to learn to speak French and hear a lot of separatist politics
Winnipeg or Regina or Edmonton or Calgary are just plain shithole cities |

I don't know what it's called but there is a little town by Niagra Falls I stayed in while I was on vacation. It looked like they had some condos and houses there too. Rather than hotels and tourist spots. If you would like to live in a spot by this beautiful spot, it's for you. |

Are you coming from America?
Affordable comes with a price though.. not as many well paying jobs (hence affordable housing and cheaper things in general haha).
Hey come up to Calgary, Alberta for a good job and ok housing prices (including rent). |
