Passports are not needed for LAND or SEA travel to and from canada yet. Yeh will be needed at a "later" date that has no yet been det but will be after next summer. See site below and read top half f page for correct info. If you have a passport, carry it, as border patrol really refers that and it is your best form of I.D. |

Currently if you are travelling by land a government issued photo ID and birth certificate is required. However if you were born in a foreign country your citizenship card should also be brought. The easiest form of ID for crossing the border, either way, is your passport however.
The US government wants to institute a passport requirement for all travel to and from the US. This was to have come into effect this July however it has been delayed until next year. This is subject to change as other forms of ID are being looked at however at present, if you do not have a passport, I would apply for one asap. It tends to speed up your crossing at the border as there is less confirmation of ID work to be done. |
