The Canadian
Hey
I am not a lumberjack, or a fur trader.
I don't live in an igloo,
or eat blubber, or own a dogsled,
and I don't know Jimmy, Suzy, or Sally from Canada,
although I am certain they are really, really nice.

I Am Canadian
I have a Prime Minister, not a President
I speak English and French, not American
I pronounce it "About" not "a boot"
I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack
I believe in Peacekeeping, not policing
Diversity, not Assimilation
and that the Beaver is a proud and noble animal.
The Toque is a hat,
A Chesterfield is a couch,
and "Z" is pronounced "ZED" not "ZEE", "ZED"
Canada is the second largest land mass,
The first nation of hockey, and
THE BEST PART OF NORTH AMERICA!!
My Name is "Joe", and
"IAM CANADIAN!!!"

Hmm... Well, contrary to some myth out there, we do not live in igloos, we have heat (thats how we survive winter), and each part of the country has unique charms that will both delight you and puzzle you.

As the 2nd largest country in the world, it can take considerable time and $$$ to truly experience Canada. Perhaps it's best that you come for a visit and take us in doses.

In recent years, you might be surprised to learn that Canadians have strongly influenced music, art, and entertainment around the world. Time was when we were somewhat obscure worldwide, but the past 15 or so years have seen a dramatic paradigm shift in how Canadian entertainers and artists are viewed.

We are actually kinda normal, although we are not a war-liking country. You will see our proud armed forces on peacekeeping and humanitarian missions throughout the world.

We are silently patriotic. We love our country and we know it. We don't need to necessarily wave flags, scream that we are the best, or otherwise draw attention to ourselves.

We are politically apathetic. Just look at the turn outs at the polling stations during elections.

We love hockey, but also embrace soccer, football, and other recreational pursuits.

Oh yeah, one final thing comes to mind... we enjoy poking fun at ourselves. This could be a defense mechanism to mitigate anyone else doing it, but I rather like to think that we are kinda laid back enough to enjoy the humor.

They're just people, like any other people. Some are nice, some aren't. Most are pretty polite and most will be very helpful. They aren't too clued in on US politics - but then, you probably don't know much about Canadian politics, so that makes it even. They will know a lot more about your country than you will about theirs.

We are people like you find in every other nation around the world. In fact, in Canada, you find people from every (almost) nation around the world. We are just people...we have good and bad days like everybody else and good and bad people. Again, just like everywhere else. Generally, we are a good people.
