The geographic feature known as "Niagara Falls" is in actuality three separate cataracts.
On the US side (belonging to Niagara Falls, New York) are the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. These are the two smaller cataracts.
On the Canadian side (belonging to Niagara Falls, Ontario) is the Horseshoe Falls ... the largest of the three.
Most images that show only one of the Falls, particularly for travel brochures, use ones of the Canadian side, since it is somewhat more spectacular. |

It belongs to the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.
Niagara Falls is comprised of two major sections separated by Goat Island: Horseshoe Falls, mostly on the Canadian side of the border and American Falls on the United States side. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls also is located on the American side. |

The water fall belongs to neither city. The waterfalls are governed by the International Joint Commission which oversees boundries between the two countries and also regulates the Niagara Water Diversion Treaty of 1950. |
