My husband and I live in Vancouver, but are from other cities. My summary personally is do not come here if you don't have a LOT of money! You will not be able to do anything unless you have access to a huge savings account or small fortune that a relative may have given you. There are great things to do in Vancouver. Shopping, dining, recreation (home of the Canucks), beaches, water sports, sailing, skiing at Whistler and more. Very scenic and temperate year round. However, as I mentioned, bring every penny you own. You might need ALL of it!

Calgary is the place to visit. It has everything you want to do the same as Vancouver, without murdering your wallet. Alberta also has no sales tax on purchases, the only place in Canada, which is beneficial to the visitor wanting to do more. The only downfall here is that it is very cold (-20c) in the winter. But summer in Calgary is beautiful and warm and the scenery is spectacular! They also are home to the Calgary Flames, our favourite NHL team!

not much comparison; Vancouver. The climate is more tolerable (a few snow days per year) and the city is right by mountains and ocean for all those outdoor pursuits like sking, boarding, hiking, kayak etc etc.
Bigger city, more multicultural...

Dead Day Afternoon
Vancouver.
Only downfall is it is expensive.

Vancouver consistently places as one of the top five cities to live in in the world.- based on quality of life, you can go sailing in the morning and ski in the afternoon.

Vancouver by a long shot . Calgary is fun and pretty cool especially since the olympics in 86, but Vancouver is a coastal city with great weather and great diversity.

Not the Fallen
Suzsanna has it right. It's pretty expensive to live in Vancouver but the scenery out here is amazing. Our weather is a lot milder than Calgary's

As someone who has lived in Calgary for many many years it all depends on if you are a redneck.

If you like having "culture" or even going to concerts Calgary is not the place.

No comparison , Van City all the way. Calgary is alright.

Vancouver is more fascinating, but I may not put Vancouver over Winnipeg, Manitoba because I love Winnipeg's rich history.
