Partly bad manners, partly ignorance.
When Canada decided not to join the US in Iraq, I got a number of hate emails about Canada, delivered to my .ca address.
The Americans who sent them are still baffled that I have blocked their emails. |

It's a combination of things.
I guarantee 100% the same ones that give you a hard time about being Canadian know next to nothing about Canada.
In the states they make fun of us, kind of like how we make fun of them. It starts out in a way similar to how siblings pick on eachother. A few people may take that seriously on both sides of the border.. so they may take it over the top a little bit.
Whenever I get that I just become honest and blunt.
Repeat after me:
"Hey... I'm proud of where I'm from, and I'm proud to be Canadian. Just like I'm sure you're proud of where you're from as well. You're not harming me at all, I don't have any problems with you. I'm not harming you at all, so why do you have problems with me? I don't rag on you because of your background, I'm not ignorant like that. So I expect the same from you."
The type of people that hate you for being Canadian are the same types of ignorant people that hate anyone for being different than themselves. Trust me... people like that are not worth your time, or anybody elses. |

I don't think Americans have anything against Canada. It's a nice place.
Better food though? You've got to be kidding? The closer you are to being English, the worse your food is. And Canadians are slightly closer than Americans.
--I'm honestly curious--what is this great Canadian cuisine and where do you find it? Someone should open a Candian restaurant. :) |
