"Hi"....Well first of all a "Welcome" to Canada after a long process of going through the machinations of immigration..."Congrats" ! *S*
I'm a little surprised at some of the answers before me but don't worry about those whatsoever !
Canadians have either parents or grandparents or great grandparents who initially immigrated here...so I rest my case ! *S*
Hope that helps ya and Vancouver is a world class multi-cultural city ! *S* (Michael C...) |

We usually don't mind immigrants too much. Every community in this country has immigrants, so I would say they are generally accepted (I'm just speaking from small town Alberta).
Just bring a skill set with you. We usually value hard workers, and Mexicans are usually hard workers, so just work hard, make a name for yourself, and you'll be just fine. |

I honestly think you will be welcome anywhere in Canada. The only objection I seem to hear regarding immigration is the newcomer not wanting to adapt to Canadian ways. I would suggest you make an attempt to accept our dress, our language and our customs so as to be one of us. Most of us feel the old saying of "When in Rome do as the Romans do" fits. It has been just the opposite. We must change so we don't offend the newcomers sensebilities.
Good luck and Felice Navidad |

Immigration is fine as long as it includes integration. Everyone has a right to respect their own heritage and culture, but not at the cost of the customs and traditions of the country you are now living in. Congrats and welcome! |

The federal government promotes us as an immigrant-loving country. However, most Canadians of European and native descent are rather abrasive about immigrants. Usually its because the federal government NEVER asks us if we want people from India, China, Pakistan, and places like that coming here. Because we aren't allowed to oppose immigrants entering our country, the immigrants can pretty much do whatever they want. This is a ballooning problem; Ruby Dhalla, who is from Mumbai I believe, was considering running in the Liberal leadership race.
If you want to be liked in Canada, speak English as best as you can, wear NHL gear whenever you can, and become a fan of a team. That will work better than if you just act like a Mexican tourist. |
