If you are FLYING , you must have a passport. If you are travelling by LAND you need a photo I.D. And a proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport OR a birth certificate. See site below for current , correct info.

Passport if you have it, birth certificate and a driver's license helps even if you're not the driver at the time

Well, you'd probably cross from Vermont, or go into buffalo NY, to Niagara, then go to Montreal, both ways will work the same and myself going from Montreal to Vermont since I was born you need a drivers license, if you're the driver, a birth certificate, and if you have a passport. If you are bringing pets, make sure you bring the paper that shows they are up to date on their shots.

I live on the border and I can tell you that you're better off with a passport. It just saves so much hassle.

Do you own a passport already?

Might as well apply for one this year and save yourself the hassle of having to bring a U.S. ID such as a birth certificate and/or a Driver's License - know what I mean?

Hope this helps and that you cross the U.S./Canada border in one piece, lol!
