am not a citizen of USA, i came from Sri Lanka with my mother using her passport, the passport has expired. My cousin and i were planning on going to canada for a about a week, we plan on driving there.

you definitely need a new passport. At one time they would accept a valid birth certificate to go over the border but that is no longer true. Depending on when you are going you will need to get working on that right away because getting a new passport takes a while unless you can pay big money to get it expedited.
May I also suggest that you are clear on these things so when you are asked they don't give you a hard time.
1) What is the reason for your visit?
2) Where you are going?
2) How long you plan to stay?
3) Are you meeting anyone there?
4) Are you carrying any fruit or live plants? (These are not allow across the border)
Be friendly but NOT overly friendly. Make your answers direct and clear.
I have gone many times and sometimes they want to know a lot of things and make it more difficult and other times it is easy and no problem at all. I guess it depends on the border control person you get at the time.

Good grief! You already have a prpoblem with using your mother's passport. That's fraud and if you get caught you are in deep doo doo.
You need a passport to enter Canada, as you are not an American citizen. And as you are only 18, you need a notarized statement from your parents that you have their approval to go on this trip - but as you don't have legitimate or valid ID, that won't matter because you won't be allowed to cross the border. |

Yes, indeed you do need a passport. You should arrange your papers so you get your own passport if you want to get even out of the US of A. |

If you are a citizen of one of the countries listed on the web site below, you need to apply for a visa in order to enter Canada. And you will need a passport.
