What do think of the latest liberal farce? |
All the contenders for the liberal leadership have dropped out to make way for Ignatieff. Now not only does the liberal party not want to let the people of Canada have a say in our Gov. they now won't even let the members of their party have a choice in deciding who leeds their party. |

I have been disgusted with them for a while. But I bet there are still people that would like to see a coalition government led by those clowns. Hell people still voted for them after Adscam.
Hopefully this will cause a nice schism. The party is full of asshats and need to be cleansed before they can be trusted to run the country again. |

It is important to remember that this is a temporary thing. The Liberals are bringing in an interim leader (Ignatief) because of the timing. Harper plans to announce the budget in January, and they do not want Dion at the helm when it comes time to face a confidence vote. Ignatief already said that he hopes that Mr. Harper will come up with a good budget and a plan to deal with the economic crisis so he and the other party members would not have to force an election or push a coaltion into place.
Interim leaderships have happened in the past, usually when the current leader resigns and is unwilling or unable to continue until a new leader is elected. The new official leader will be announced in May. You can think of this as a trial run, where we get to see how Ignatief would do before we officially elect him to run the party.
This issue is hitting a head now mainly because more than half the Canadian senate do not feel that Harper is acting fast enough to address the serious problems are country is facing.
I wanted the Liberals out in 2006 because Harper promised a more transparent government, one free of scandals and accountable to the people. Then the first thing I see when he gets in is that he clamps down on the news media and reprimands his own party members for speaking out on a subject.
Now, I don't necessarily want the Liberals back in, but I do want someone who is working to resolve our problems and is willing to share what he is doing to fix the problems. The lack of information, the appearance of inactiviity, and the fact that so many parties are willing to put away their differences to try to work together against the Tories is the only reason I am interested in the coalition aspect. I just wish it was the coalition of all the major parties working toward a common good, including the Tories.

Well, like it or not. As far as I'm concerned Michael will take the reigns. He's charismatic, knows how to play politics a.k.a. staying under the radar when you don't need to be involved; and heck!, he's a Harvard grad'. As for the farce going on . . . well, roll out the red carpet. And, Stephan; pack your bags buddy! your going home. O yeah, one last thing. The only way Stephen's staying in power (or what ever we're calling it these days), even temporarily, is by coming up with a very serious economic stimulus package. ASAP. Or say good bye! |

I'm so sick of the Harper government that I really don't care what happens to kick them out. I feel as if the US has taken a huge step forward with electing Obama and we are going backwards. By the looks of it Ignatieff has support from his fellow liberals... he is very intelligent and carries himself well. He almost has a calming presence around all the government chaos |

I wouldn't say the Liberal contenders have dropped out, they just each moved to support Ignatieff. He probably only had the real chance anyway, with Bob Rae's dirty in history in Ontario.
I think it's better they did it now instead of dragging along with Dion for the next few months.
Seems like it was the reasonable choice to me. |

It was the smart thing to do. I don't know what I really think of Ignatieff yet, but he's the only one with any charisma who's likely to make the Liberal Party seem electable again. They have a lot of face saving to do after Dion botched his attempted coup so badly by not even communicating with the nation in a timely or competent manner, as our supposed new self appointed Prime Minister. I used to think Dion deserved a chance but bleh! Next time I will be able to vote Liberal without putting a clothespin on my nose. |

Dude, what other choice do they have, all other people who were going to run dropped out and threw support behind mike. If there was a ballot to choose now it would read, Ignatieff or Iggy?? At least he wont be a disaster like Dion and is obviously much better than harper. I wont be voting conservative again until they have a new leader. |

The fact that Ignatieff never lived in Canada and spent 30 years of his adult life in the US really bothers me. I would have preferred a familiar face like an ex MP or someone younger with at least a Canadian history. |

Farce is right. The liberal party is a dictatorship, they try to overthrow the Government and manipulate their own leadership race and throw out the rights of the others who would like to run for the leadership and the members of the liberal party who now do not get to vote for and support the person who they believe should led their party. Nothing but a treason es farce. |
