I've never known if this was really written by an Australian dentist, but I like the words anyway, even if they aren't really written by an Australian.

An Australian Definition of a Canadian - Written by an Australian Dentist

You probably missed it in the local news, but there was a report
that someone in Pakistan had advertised in a newspaper an offer of a
reward to anyone who killed a Canadian - any Canadian.
An Australian dentist wrote the following editorial to help define
what a Canadian is, so they would know one when they found one.
A Canadian can be English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German,
Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. A Canadian can be Mexican,
African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian,
Asian, Arab, Pakistani or Afghan.A Canadian may also be a Cree, Metis, Mohawk, Blackfoot, Sioux, or one of the many other tribes known as native Canadians. A Canadian's religious beliefs range from Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim,
Hindu or none. In fact, there are more Muslims in Canada than in
Afghanistan. The key difference is that in Canada they are free to
worship as each of them chooses. Whether they have a religion or no
religion, each Canadian ultimately answers only to God, not to the
government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. A Canadian lives in one of the most prosperous lands in the history
of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the
Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which recognize the right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.
A Canadian is generous and Canadians have helped out just about
every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking
a thing in return. Canadians welcome the best of everything, the
best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the
best services and the best minds. But they also welcome the least - the oppressed, the outcast and the rejected. These are the people who built Canada. You can try to kill a Canadian if you must as other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world
have tried but in doing so you could just be killing a relative or a
neighbor. This is because Canadians are not a particular people from
a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of
freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, can be a Canadian.

Wow! Thank you Grace, for that piece written by an Australian dentist. It's beautiful. I hope Canadians will always remain peaceful and friendly people. I hope all this talk about how good Canadians are won't go to our heads...

As an American citizen I don't feel that a Canadian is any more different than anyone from another state in the US. I think the people there are more fun loving & real than we are up to a point. A Canadian to me has almost the same original roots like the first folks that migrated to the US from Europe. We also have a lot of French here, mostly in the South. All in all Canadians are great. I love em!

Canadians are people with Canada on their birth certificates or like minded people born elsewhere in the world who come to settle here.
As far Pakistanis x-tremists putting the hit on Canadians.... its absolutely quite possible they will actually end up killing "one of their own"!!

There is a HUGE difference between citizens of Canada and the US. Canadians are friendlier, more open and honest, and aren't racist. The Canadian mosaic presents a whole different picture than the US melting pot. Canada's election system shows one of the basic differences - where the US citizen has two parties to vote for, in the last election there were ten official parties in Canada, covering the whole political spectrum and then some.

A person who is a citizen Canada. Are you looking for a more specific answer, because that wouldn't make sense. I could trot out the obvious stereotypes, but in reality there are many different kinds of people in Canada. I myself have zero interest in beer or hockey, but that doesn't make me less Canadian.

Simple answer: Anyone who lives (or has lived) in Canada and is proud to be from here.

Love Grace's answer and I do hope you read Zephora's link.

I spent a lot of years looking after WWII vets. I met a lot of fantastic people through my association with them including one man who swore to me that He was one of a group of very unique Canadians and I would not likely find anyone like them anywhere else in the world. Who were they?

They were former German POWs held in Canada during the war who were so well treated and loved it here so much, they came back, got Canadian citizenship and are well respected and successful Canadians now.

And he was right - I have travelled a good part of the world and never met any former POWs who returned to their war time countries of incarceration and who have been so proud of their new status.
