Having grown up with another national anthem, I like O' Canada. As an immigrant it does bring a certain amount of pride to my soul and it doesn't bother me to sing "Our home and native land" even though I was born elsewhere.

As for why you hate it I can't answer that perhaps as a national anthem it represents to you the worst of our American cousins jingoistic nationalism. Canadians are kind of soft spoken about how prideful we are about this great country. I've got a flag pole in my back yard that proudly flies the Maple Leaf, (at least it will tomorrow when the shops open and I get the parts to fix the darn thing)

short and to the point
i like it better than my own country's - us. easy to sing as well.

It's one of my favorites. I grew up hearing that and the US anthem. (I am American)

I think that the Canadian anthem is the most beautifulest anthem and i would say that cuz i am Canadian and proud of where i came from and when i listen to it i'm always grateful to be born here, My two favourite anthems are Canada and Portugal because my background is Portuguese

Q&A
I love our anthem! The American one is too long, its like they add a new part on for every president they have.

I'm kinda partial to "The Maple Leaf Forever" which was a strong contender for the national anthem but I have nothing against the anthem as it stands now. I've served in uniform now for almost 30 years, 23 of them "full time" and it still makes me stand a little taller and straighter every time I hear it.

I love it. As someone else already stated, its simple, yet encompasses all we stand for.

*How could anyone have possibly earned a thumb down for these answers?

yes it is a good anthem but the first line should be revised as

Our home ON native land??? no... seriously, not trying to be offensive with that but it would ring true to the history and acknowledge the aboriginal founders in a one word change. Besides immigrants cant really sing that as an inclusive statement as it isnt their native land?

I always sing it like that anyways
