What do you think of the Muslims in Toronto making the Toronto Court House, take its Christmas tree down?

I think it was wrong to do that. Its not your culture background that makes you ignorant, its your personality. A Christmas tree is christians way of celebrating the holidays. You dont see any christians freaking out about other cultures and the way they celebrate the holidays in their culture. I say put the tree back up!!

No Muslims made anyone take any Xmas tree down in Toronto last week. The JUDGE had the tree moved from the lobby to a less public corridor on her own initiative, and has since changed her mind and returned the tree to the lobby.

There were no Muslims involved, and no one complained about the tree--next time you might want to check your FACTS before posting such nonsense--you do know that that bible disapproves of "bearing false witness" don't you?

To everyone else who answered--you are right that taking the tree down was not smart, but please keep in mind that this poster is completely wrong about Muslim part. Thanks

Actually, that's not what happened. The Courts on Jarvis were ordered to take the tree out of the main entrance and into a side hall. The Judge who ordered the move did so , thinking that the tree may offend people from anything other than the christian faith and show preferential treatment to christians. The judge, isn't Muslim, with a last name of Cohen, she's Jewish.

I think it should not have been erected in the first place because so many people have allergies to the various trees used as Christmas trees. It's a public space.

Other than that, Christmas trees are really leftover from Pagan celebrations that pre-date Christianity.

Well, I'm not sure what the Canadian Constitution is like, but in the US there is supposed to be clear separation between church and state and issues such as this are constantly cropping up. Denver has battled for years about the Christmas display at the courthouse and other battles have included questions about displays of the Ten Commandments in government building. I know that it seems harsh to those who would just like to enjoy the tree, but if you look at the reasons behind it - that it's absolutely essential that no one religion influence the government - it makes sense. I know if the Religious Right were in control of the government as a lesbian I would probably be executed or rounded up in a concentration camp, so even though I love Christmas lights I'm grateful for the separation. I'm sure that the reaction is going to be anti-Arab, but Muslim citizens have the same rights as Christians and these types of suites have been brought over the year by a variety of groups. In Denver I believe that it is an atheist group that has objected to the courthouse display.

I am Christian and I am not frustrated or upset by this. Only because I can empathize with Muslims and Jews who have to go shopping from Nov 1st to Dec 24th and have Christmas thrown up in their face. I have never once been asked to pray during Ramadan, or light a Menorah, so therefor my religious holiday should not be rammed down anyone else's throat. Things will change in the is world and already are, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world.

The fact that they are Muslims doesn't matter. Having anyone insist that a Christmas tree be taken down because they don't celebrate that holiday seems fruitless. Observing a Christmas tree out in public does not entail one to begin celebrating Christmas. I don't understand why some people are sensitive to a Christmas tree being erected somewhere. One option is to request that a symbol that celebrates their holiday/belief be put up as well. Having a Christmas tree removed will not cure whatever the person's issue with it is. They need to do some soul searching. It's just a tree that the Toronto Court House wanted to have up to give the impression of being a festive group of people, IMO. lol I'm Roman Catholic and could care less whether a Christmas tree is erected, taken down and not erected at all. People shouldn't being SO concerned about a tree. There's far more important and crucial issues to invest your emotions, energy and time in.

I don't now or ever have thought much good of a Muslim as they show themselves as an ignorant people with every action they perform . this is a country based on Christianity and the politically correct has earned the same respect I have for Muslims , none .
they came here knowing this fact so they want us to fight among ourselves as they did and still do in their homeland which has been a squallier for the last 4000 years. To the politicians , put the tree back!!
