The view on the Canadian side is nicer, but other than that it's awful what they've done to the area. Can you imagine what the Grand Canyon would be like if it were in Canada? They'd put hotels, amusement park rides, and freak shows right up to the edge of the canyon.

I liked the few better from the Canadian Side. There was really no change in feeling in safeness and cleanliness. The Canadian side of Niagara Falls is just one Giant tourist trap.

Wow you mean the New York side doesn't have all those haunted houses, hotels, arcades, and what not? Then I've got to go with the New York side.

Despite popular opinion that the Canadian side is better, I personally prefer the American side. That's just my opinion. I prefer the American side because it's not over crowded, noisy and full of tourist traps. I like being able to be beside Niagara Falls surrounded by nature (in the state park). That's how it should be. Many people say the American side isn't as good as the Canadian side -- why? Because the American side doesn't have over priced restaurants, motels and arcades all over the place? The areas on both sides of Niagara Falls should have been established as conservation areas / national parks many years ago to prevent over development. Obviously that didn't happen on the Canadian side so at least the American side has the state park protecting that area from being over developed. If you want to see what Niagara Falls could have possibly looked like, google “Victoria Falls” and look at the pictures of what a waterfall looks like surrounded by nature without hotels and tourist traps.

As for safety, I feel safe on both sides. Most of the crime people refer to on the American side is in the dangerous areas in the city of Buffalo, which is south of Niagara Falls. Obviously the actual city of Niagara Falls, NY isn’t the nicest place but that’s because it’s been affected by the slow economy in Buffalo and because most of the tourists visit the Canadian side to visit the tourist traps and indeed, for the better view. Niagara Falls, NY has been improving a lot so that’s good, and the state park has always been great. Both sides are clean, with the exception of a few seedy areas on both sides. And no … it doesn’t feel like you’re in India as India is at the other side of the world.

For the better views of the falls and over priced tourist traps, go to the Canadian side. To see the falls in a quiet / peaceful environment, go to the American side.

The American side of Niagara Falls is not as good as the Canadian side.
