Home Sweet Home.

I think of the Stampede,
C-Train,
Deer Foot,
McLoad Trail with all the restaurants,
17th Ave with the restaurants and bars,
the Red Mile,
the Flames,
all the landscapes (from lakes to the mountains including prairies and foot hills),
Olympics,
PETER"S DRIVE IN,
hourly weather changes
snow in Aug
snow in May long weekend
plus 20 in the morning, raining by the afternoon and snow in the evening.
and again, home sweet home.

EDIT: How does this and any answer on here warrant a thumbs down? Just because you disagree doesn't mean it isn't a good answer. I pretty much know who did it but still, people are allowed their own opinions!

as a west coast resident who often travels to calgary and surrounds;

- growing, busy, cocky and young
- winter; bleak colours, brown and grey and white.
- cold or hot. little snow
- just outer side of city ; wild open expanses.
- one main core and dozens of small centres
- chinooks in January
- admiration of survial skills of plants and animals in winter
- sprawling to the limits, Indian reserve southwest boundry,
- conservative but in a unique alberta fashion.
- no provincial sales tax
-headstrong
-travelling south and west from Calgary is way cooler than going east and north from there.
- Head smashed in Buffalo jump, drumheller and fort mcleod (okay not technically Calgary but...)

First of all I think of home town cause that's where I was born. I think of their Chinook winds that blow in from Vancouver. I miss those and the way it could change the really cold weather into to being relatively warm. Recently i think of shootings, because there has been a lot of gang shootings in Calgary recently. (Had a friend who got shot there recently). I think of the busy traffic compared to where I live now. I think of the growing city and how it has really grown from when I was young. I think about all the graffiti I see written under the overpasses. I think about their zoo, which is pretty good. I think of hockey competition (Oilers fan). Mostly though I think of it as a place that's good for some, but not for me.

More than anything else, I think of "home"... Calgary is the place where my girlfriend, family, friends, and pretty much everything and everyone I care about is. It's where I can look to the west and see the Rocky Mountains rising out of the earth, and to the south where rolling prairie foothills extend off into the distance, and to the north where Nose HIll looms over everything. It's also where there's a lot of work to do to overcome an overwhelming sense of greed and fear to bring about the common good.

Of course the stampede, but also Olympic Park, Saddledome, Calgary Tower, Devonian Gardens, Glenbow Museum, Fort Calgary, Chinook Centre shopping mall, Telus World of Science, Silver Dollar Casino...

Also:
-easy to get around because streets and avenues are numbered
-close to the Rocky Mountains and foothills
-close to Drumheller badlands and Royal Tyrell Museum
-nearby trails, skiing, rafting, kayaking
-cold winters with occasional chinook winds...

Calgary, I think of the Flames, and the olympics. I've never been there, but when I also hear Alberta, I think of the oil sands, and dinosaur fossils. I also think of Alberta clippers, which bring us cold weather where I am. I wouldn't mind visiting there someday, Canada is a cool place, definately has things figured out better than this messed up country. (US)

.Social Distortion.
