The previous answerer has it correct.
Travel by land or sea requires drivers license and birth certificate only, until Jan 2008 or later.

Let me settle the argument once and for all: If you're going to Canada by plane or boat you'll need a passport. If you're driving, a birth certificate and picture ID will be fine until the end of this year. Starting January 1, 2008, you will have to have a passport.

REnate
Driving across that is okay. If you are flying you need a passport.

jpfitzy7
If you are driving then that is all that you need. If you are flying you will need a passport.

Mr.Handsome
definetly a drivers license a passport and a birth certificate and probably a visa if you are not legal to the U.S. or if your legal you only need this things i listed.good luck!!!

If you are Canadian and if you are flying flying into the US then you need a Passport to get into the US.

If you are Canadian and are driving into the US, you need a drivers license and birth certificate to get in. This will change in the future.

I am not sure if you are a US Citizen.

Funny thing is, I've lost my passport today, and am in Washington Dulles. I've gotten into the airport so far on smiles, but 3 flights have been canceled due to weather. I hope I get through tomorrow morning and back into Canada. An adventure for sure! Hope my smile keeps working!

rhythm.nbass
Nope, new regulations.... you need a passport no matter what.
