What does it feel like being Canadian?

This is a really open-ended question, but there's nothing wrong with that

It must feel really good to be part of a country that really values the welfare of its own people FIRST. And a country that struggles to balance a happy utopian society against a harsh reality from outside.

To me, Canada is like the Carpathia ship, that was the boat that rescued the survivors of the Titanic when it sank in the North Atlantic. It's like not the most expensive ship on earth, but it's the ship that will never sink under because safety of its inhabitants is its #1 priority. It's the place where people who have battled atrocities can find a safe house heated by a fire with a deck of cards, figuratively speaking.

Is that a fair comparison? Sorry to go on a tangent to the original question.

Kelsey here are the facts:

I am an American, I live in the state of Maryland, I travel to Canada quite often. Sometimes I post funny questions to see if I can push people's buttons. Other times I post truly sincere questions straight from the heart. This is one of my sincere ones.

Overall, Canada has some imperfections, but the bad will never outweigh the good.

i'm proud that it's like that but i feel that as a canadian, we are not as competitive as the americans, just look at the olympics, it doesn't really seem like we give a damn about winning as much as some other countries

That's kind of like asking a kid on their birthday how it feels to be 11 now. I dunno, about the same as always.

As Canadians we complain about alot of things...the lines at Tim Hortons, taxes, and Stephen Harper...but few of us would want to be anything other than Canadians.

Wow, do people really see our country like that?
Thats amazing :D

But Ide just like to point out that poverty, hunger and racism exists everywhere on the planet. Unfortunatly, us Canadians were not spared lol

Anyways, being Canadian feels nice and I hope our current Prime Minister while not make me that this statement back.

cute question ;)

Ok Eric S...Who the hell are you? I've seen dozens of questions you've posted and you seem to really flunctuate in your opinions....Sorry don't mean to sound rude just wondering.

And I second the guy that said we complain about things:P. It's true that I envy some of the stuff the States get, but when it comes down to it I wouldn't want to be anything other than Canadian.

*ajidamoon* the Eh team
I would say that is one of the best comparisons I have ever heard.

Well Eric,
I gotta say, as a born & raised Canadian; I AM PROUD TO CALL MYSELF A CANADIAN!!!
And when ever any Canadian feels they have it ruff being a Canadian, had better look around to other countries as they may be less fortunate that us. I have travelled all around, only to find, "There is no place like home". But then again life is what you make of it, anywhere.

Ps. I like how you compared Canada to the Carpathian - You hit head on the nail; Just my opinion anyhow.

You're right on !
It's good to see that some of our neighbor americans are friendly, but yes I love being Canadian and wouldnt want to be anythign else other than canadian, I feel safe here and that my prioritites come first.

Best answer usually the simplest
we have 1% of the population and we do 10% of the peacekeeping and is not recognized for that effort. We make great strides in inventions and again not recognized.(the lightbulb was invented in
Canada first) T.E. just patended it. You roll with the punches.
